We will be visiting DLR the beginning of June (38 days!!). We will be taking a shuttle straight from LAX to our hotel, sticking to the DLR area for 4 days then back to the airport & coming home. Just wondering if you can see the ocean when either landing at or taking off from LAX. I have no idea how far it is from the water and I'd at least like to point out to my nieces, 'Look, there's the ocean!' This is their first trip to DLR & California.

LAX is very close to the ocean. You can see the ocean on take off. Landing is over land.

Depending on what way the shuttle take you you maybe able to see it! I know the way we went the last time you could see water... it was over by the navy base.

To say that LAX is close to the water is an understatement. LAX is ON the water!

It's true that the predominant winds are on-shore, in which case you'll take off over the ocean and land from over the land, as the PP said. But you'll have good views of the water during approach, no matter which way you come in. And if, when you're landing, you get a day with the less-frequent off-shore breeze, perhaps you'll land from over the ocean, too :thumbsup2

... Have you ever had one of those moments when you think, "Oh, crap, I think I made a mistake!" in regards to vacation planning?

That's me now. I hate flying. I hate flying over water even more.

I should have never looked at that Google Map picture.
