I was wondering you could book a room and hold it until your resale came through. I am looking at a holiday week (Easter) and figure it might get to be sold out in the next month. If the resale doesn't come through for at least a month, could i book the room and then just transfer my DVC membership over to it. Thanks.

I don't think so. I have points that expire 11/30 from a resale and I can't sell or use them until the deal closes which is around the 15th of November. I can't even book anything tentatively either.

Sorry...

No

There are many reasons. Rooms for cash and for points come out of different inventory. You may have a chance on a near reservation, but its not likely. Within 60 days, the line between cash and point inventory gets blurred.

No it doesn't work that way. Cash reservations and DVC point rooms come from separate inventory. You can't make a reservation until after closing.

How about having the person you are buying from make a reservation in your name with what will be your points?

Nope, HBC, negative, can't do that.

Several years ago, supposedely to eliminate confusion, but more likely meant to make resales less valuable, Disney began canceling all reservations made upon transfer.

That used to be our advice, can't do that anymore.

Too bad. That is what it does.

How long ago did they change that policy? That is the first I've ever heard it.

It was a long time ago, very long, I think I was still in New York....that would be '97.

I could be very wrong, it may have been later, but I think I was still in NY.

i believe that DVC will cancel all reservations when you close.
basically, if a new membership# or a new contract# is generated, they'll clear out the old reservations on that account.

We've discussed the fact that DVC will cancel all reservations when a resale is submitted a number of times. It is actually included in their packet of info they give to those that inquire about selling resales. You could make a cash reservation and hope that somethings is available on points but this helps only if you intent to pay cash if there is no availability. You could delay closing and use the points prior but that's not a good idea. You could work out an exchange of points with anotehr member. Or you could just get on the phone a few days after your closing.

DVC will get your info on closing about 2-5 days after you actually close. You do not have to wait until you get the deed back to call.
