Can you request your UY

I am interested in buying some points at BLT. Can I request my UY? The reason I ask is that I would also be looking to buy into other resorts at a later date resale and it seems to me certain UY have better availability in the resale market for certain resorts. Ands from what I have read there is no good reason to mix UY, it only makes it harder to manage your points.

Yes, you can ask for the UY that you want. At this point, depending on which UY you want, you will be eligible for 2009 UY points.

Right now, you would still get 2009 points for August, Sept, Oct, and Dec UY. All the others have started their 2010 UY's so those would not qualify (well, June starts tomorrow).

Remember, though, try to choose a UY that happens just before your typically travel so that you have the maximum flexibility to change a vacation, bank points if you have to cancel a trip, or re-book a trip if borrowed points were used.

We own June UY because we typically travel in the summer and at some point, will travel in the fall. June UY works well for all these times.

You are smart to think about use year. We didn't, just took what Disney assigned to us, but we got really lucky because our Oct. use year is perfect for travel Oct. - May (we don't go to WDW in the summer). All of our contracts are Oct. use year to make it easy, as you stated. However, there are some folks who like having different use years. If you travel at very different times of the year, then you might want some points for one trip and other points for another time of year.
When we were younger we never worried about having to cancel. Now we have health issues that make things more complicated and canceling has become a fact of life for us. I am very grateful to have a use year that allows us to bank points when we have to cancel.
