DS is at college and had a VCR/DVD combo but the video recorder broke. It would cost nearly as much as I paid for the unit (it was a gift) to repair it. I went to look for just a VCR as he wants to record some TV shows he can't watch. The man in Radio Shack suggested a DVD recorder instead as VCR's are nearly extinct.

I don't think he can use Tivo because of the phone hookup it would require, and I don't want a monthly bill.

Anyone have a DVD recorder that they can recommend? And I don't want to break the bank. This is going to a dorm room.

I have Comcast and just added the DVR service. You get the receiver, pay an installation fee and then $10 a month for the service. I've only had it for a week now, but have gotten a lot of use out of it :teeth:

Thanks for the reply. DS tells me it isn't DVR he wants but a DVD recorder. I know what he wants but had the wrong name. I will change the title.

I am planning to buy a unit with a hard drive and dvd burner. This way you can record what you want on the hard drive and view it, and then burn it to DVD if you choose to keep it. Haven't picked one out yet, but there are several out there to choose from. :)
