Day 2--Tuesday, November 29, 2005
I woke up early after my late night at Jellyrolls so I could hit MGM for early entry. They sky was looking pretty threatening, but I put on my jacket, grabbed my jacket, and started the walk to the studios. I made an immediate beeline for the Tower of Terror and the Rock N Roller Coaster, and road them both. By the time I got off the Tower of Terror, it was raining pretty hard. I know that I couldnt spend a day walking around the parks in the rain, so I decided I would head over to Downtown Disney for shopping and a movie.
So, I walked back to the Boardwalk, and grabbed a bus to Downtown Disney. I went into a few stores, and got some souvenirs, including a cute little light up Christmas tree. I then headed over to the West Side, where I had an early lunch at Wolfgang Pucks Café. I got a mixed green salad, and Grandma Pucks Bolognese Spaghetti. I really enjoyed my meal. I love the garlic and rosemary foccacia bread they serve here.
After lunch, I headed over to the AMC theatre to go see Rent, which happens to be my favorite Broadway musical, and is now a play. I had already seen it a few times, but I couldnt think of a better way to spend a rainy day at Walt Disney World. There were only about a dozen people in the theatre. I have to say that the seats in this theatre are by far the most uncomfortable movie theatre Ive ever sat in at a theatre.
After the movie, I took the bus back to the Boardwalk. The weather had cleared up by now, so I decided I would give Fantasmic another shot. I dropped some of my purchases off at my room, and headed back to the Studios. I took another ride on the Tower of Terror and the Rock N Roller Coaster.
I also took a walk over to see the Osbourne Family lights. I have to say that I was again disappointed by them. I just don't think that MGM is the place to put those lights anymore. When they had them on Residential Street, it was really an amazing display, but now it's not as spectacular. They just kind of have them all lined up straight with some fancy stuff strewn about. If you haven't seen them before, you'll love them, but if you remember what they used to be like, it's a disappointment.
I then went to get a seat for Fantasmic. In the past, I had only seen Fantasmic from the far right side of the stadium, and this time I was three sections over from the left. It was interesting seeing the show from a different area--you definitely noticed different things when you sit in a different section. I really enjoyed Fantasmic. I had really been looking forward to seeing it this trip so I could compare it to the one I saw in Disneyland in October. I definitely liked the Disney World version better.
After Fantasmic, I hot footed it out of the park, and headed back to the Boardwalk to see if my DIS friend Goofy4Tink had arrived yet. She was going to be staying with me for one night of my trip. She was already in my room when I got back to the Boardwalk. We decided to head into Epcot to grab a bite to eat, and do a few things. Our first stop was the American Adventure, where we grabbed chicken strips for dinner. We were both disappointed that they did not have sweet and sour sauce, so I settled for the honey dijon, which was pretty good.
After dinner, we took rides on the Maelstrom and the Rio del Tiempo. We walked right on both of them, and didnt get stuck in the movie at Norway. We had our own boat on the Rio del Tiempo, which was probably a good thing because I was singing and clapping along to the ride.
We then headed out to find a good spot for Illuminations. We wound up picking a spot on the bridge between the United Kingdom and France. It was a decent spot considering we grabbed it about five minutes before the show started. I really love the holiday ending to this show. Let There Be Peace On Earth just gives me the chills every time I hear it, and the fireworks to go along with it were fantastic.
We then headed back towards the Boardwalk. We stood on the Boardwalk and listened to Jellyrolls from the outside for a few minutes, but didnt go in, as my guys Scotty and Ray werent working that night. We headed back to the room, and watched some TV before hitting the hay.
