I see a lot of people on here say they paid cash for their DVC, but I am wondering if anyone has paid in ACTUAL cash in person when they are with DVC guide for add ons? Just curious if you are able to do that.

LOL, I think if you walked in to the DVC office with $20,000 in cash, they would wonder WHY you had that much cash!

I am thinking that most people don't carry that kind of cash with them, but I can't see why they would not take it, but then again, may not have a safe to keep it in.

We used our Disney Visa to pay for the contracts so we got the reward points, and paid that off with our cash.

I would put it on your credit card then pay it off immediately once you get home. I am sure they would be happy to take your money but I would not travel with that much cash. They might actually make you prove where the money came from to make sure it wasn't from illegal sources... We did the credit card/pay off immediately method when we bought.

I paid cash as in I wrote a cheque from my US fund bank account. This was cash I had saved up for future trips.

We made the trip to the mall specifically to do a small add on. I saw no reason to pay for certified check. Nor hassle with waiting for a personal check to clear. It wasn't 20k, as I said, it was an add-on we were wanting. But trust me, even for a few k, they kinda blinked. Oh, yeah, and brought in a second person to count it :confused3

Wow. Cool. How did you manage this? We tried to close on a 200 pt SSR contract using our Disney Visa (to do the same exact thing as you) and was universally told certified check only to close. I would have loved those Disney points.

**** edit. Never mind. I bet the difference is that you bought direct and we bought resale. I seem to recall Disney taking credit cards via direct...Never mind!

Purchases *up to $10,000* can be made in cash, in most businesses. More than that has to be reported. At least that is how it is in our retail car business. We tell folks to pay no more than $9,000 or so in cash and then if they want to pay payments, they can also do them in cash. I paid for my DVC in full, but i did it on a credit card, and then I paid it off when the bill came.

FYI - we put our original $20K purchase and our $15K ad-on on our Disney Visa. Our limit isn't quite that high, so our guide split the payment in two and made those charge transactions a couple of weeks apart so we could pay off the first half on the CC before the 2nd half of the charge went through.

Helloooooooo, rewards!!!

Our SSR contract of 420 points was purchased by certified check, resale.
I can't imagine someone paying in actual cash dollars.

Legal tender for all debts public and private.

Walk in there with a pocket full of dead presidents and call me if they don't take them.

Interesting how people just assume that everyone has a pocket full of CC's or can even get one.

There will be extra paperwork & scrutiny involved if the cash involved is over $10K (or maybe less, I'm not entirely up to date on all the banking laws). But I do know that there are various laws (anti-money laundering, Patriot Act) that require tracking transfers of large amounts of cash. Since 9/11, there has been increased interest in this area.

Frankly, I can't imagine anyone silly enough to carry that amount of cash around without an armed guard and I do not think the DVC sales people are equipped to handle it. So I hope this was just a "what if" question, LOL.

P.S. There have been several auto dealers (and probably other business people) who failed to report large cash transactions who are now faced with huge fines and/or jail time. My guess is that DVC will tell you to write a personal check or use a credit card. Then they are not responsible for the paperwork, since the reporting & tracking are done elsewhere.

I am sure Disney and or the Title Company (for Resale) would take cash for a purchase, but a Certified Check may be a better option.
It would be scary to carry that much $$$$ around. I would be afraid Bills would fall out of my pockets, or that everyone around me knew I had all that money on me. :scared1:

banking transactions (withdrawals & deposits) over of $10K r reported to fed too, no biggie...basically a tool to prevent money laundering:confused3

I thought about it! I went to DL in oct and the day before we went to the park, we spent the night before gambling at Morongo. I told my uncle that if I won any $$$ that I was addint on points at VGC so that I didnt have to fly back with it!

never won though...imagine that :confused3

There is no law or requirement that a business has to accept cash, in fact they don't and any private business may choose not to accept cash.

I wouldn't want to walk around with that much cash you are too easy of a target.

Thank you for posting this ... I was wondering if/how Disney would accommodate "cash" payments that were higher than credit card limits. (Hopefully, they will do this for any Visa since us Canadians can't get a Disney Visa.)

we did not pay in cash for our add on but we did it by check .
