Can you, or can you not, pack drinks in checked baggage?

I've read some conflicting information, so I'm soliciting information from any of you who might have some experience or definitive info regarding this issue.

We're planning on packing a bottle of rum, a bottle of wine, and some bottled water to drink on the cruise. I know that Disney says it's permissible to pack bottled drinks (including alcohol) in carry-on baggage, but I'd rather avoid the weight if possible by putting it into our checked suitcases.

I've heard people say that bottles aren't permitted in checked baggage, but I've read several trip reports, etc., where people have done so without having any problems.

Anyone have any info on this.

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,

a cheap lush.

I did pack wine and tequila in our checked bags..but made sure that it was UNBREAKABLE...bubble wrap...bubble wrap and more bubble wrap!!!

We brought a case of water on-board - please the entire case in our checked luggage. We carried on champagne in our carry-on luggage - the bottles were bubble-wrapped and in a bag just in-case they were to break.

I would not recommend placing bottles in your checked luggage - that luggage gets tossed around and we have heard a few stories of the bottles breaking and destroying not only that persons items - but getting into other luggage as well.......

I took 2 cases of miller lite in my carry on suitcase.....then when emptied it's perfect for all those breakable souvineers for flying home........

I would be very careful packing anything that might cause a mess if broken. We didn't have anything like wine bottles in our luggage but we did have some small plastic things that got broken (hair clips, plastic cups, stuff like that). The porters pile the suitcases extremely high and I would imagine that the ones on the bottom are being pressed quite a lot. I don't know if you have seen the carts they pack the luggage on to bring it on the ship but it is all jammed in there.

Just remember those suitcases get tossed around and things get thrown on top of them, anything can and may break. Someone must have checked coke in their suitcases and it broke and leaked onto our suitcases. Disney paid to have some of things dry cleaned that got wet. We were very lucky that they got the stains out. Our one duffel bag/suitcase is ruined though. Maybe you should think about carrying it on.

I packed 2 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of champagne in styrofoam carriers that wineries use to ship wine. I bought the carriers at the liquor store. Then I put them in my hard-sided suitcase along with the toiletries, and all other things that weren't clothes. I duct taped the styrofoam closed. If you are using bubble wrap, I would make sure it is taped shut, so there is no way the bottles can slip out. I am on the May 28th cruise, and are driving in, so I only have to have my suitcases tossed around by the cruise personnel. I'll let you know if this didn't work, but if the wineries ship wine in these all the time, they must be good.
