Can you only transfer between your own contracts ONCE per year?

A little off topic, but sometimes I think, no I know, that the collective wisdom of the sages here on this board is far superior to those within DVC of understanding the ins and out, rules and regulations of the product!

Newbie DVCeer here and I'm rather confused. We currently own at one resort. If we purchased at another resort and transferred points to the other one, would the transfer points be treated differently and only usable at the 7 month window or could they be used at 11 months with the home resort.

Also, can you only transfer the points while making a reservation or can you transfer them a month or so in advance of making the reservation.

You need to look at your contracts. Do they have the same numbers at the beginning followed by different numbers past the decimal point? Like 12345.001 and 12345.002. That would be one master contract with an add-on. You can use points from both of those at 7 months out without transferring. If you buy more than one contract from DVC directly, they usually sell you the same use year and combine them into one master contract.

But if the numbers are different at the beginning, those are different master contracts and you must transfer from one to the other to combine points for a single night. Like 12345.001 and 34567.001.

At seven months all points are equal. But at 7 to 11 months out, you can only use specific resort points to make a reservation at that resort. So, if you have SSR and OKW points. You can only use OKW points 7-11 months out to make a reservaton at OKW. At 7 months or less, you can combine SSR and OKW points.

You can transfer the points at any time. But you can't "untransfer" them.

So based on what everyone is saying here it seems like if you don't get the answer you want the first time... hang up and call back and try again... then hang up and call back and try again...

I wonder if I did that enough times I might be able to get a free vacation out of the dazed and confused cast members?

I never thought about transferring between the too....I'll never stay at work with the thoughts you guys put in my head Now time to go plan...
