Can you not ride?

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry if this has been asked before, I did search the boards but couldn't find anything!!

I am coming over to Disneyland in July this year with my wife, sister and her partner.

My wife hates coasters though! I mean if I drive over a bump too fast she screams!!! So I do have a dilemma when it is time to go on any rides. I want her to experience Disney as much as possible and I personally feel that the queue's are part of the experience itself! So does anyone know if you are able to queue for the rides and when it is time to go on the rides walk round to the exit?

My plan is that then my wife will only be on her own for 5 minutes while we are on the rides rather than 45-60 mins whilst we are in the queue!

I hope this makes sense, thanks guys!!!

You can wait in most of the lines and then bail out at the end with no trouble. But honestly, some of the lines are pretty boring. :) Maybe she can find something that's fun for her to do while you are on the coasters. Other rides, shopping, etc. Or just enjoy the sun!

Most rides have single rider passes you can get - just walk up the CM and ask them for a single rider pass and they will send you through a different line than even the fast pass - this will make the wait much less even.

Our kids did not want to do California Screamin so my husband and I took turns doing this while the other stayed with the kids - it was a very short line so worked out great.

Have fun! :)

Agree. I really can't think of one queue for a thrill ride that is worth walking through just because.

Indiana Jones que and to a lesser extent Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain may also be worth her wait.

I get severe motion sickness. I have tried all the rides at DL and DCA, to the point of being completely miserable. I very much enjoy going through the queue with my family. Yes some of them are boring, but somehow just standing next to my DDs and DH in them make me happy. I have never had a problem just walking through. Sometimes they have a separate ramp to walk off. Sometimes they have you walk right through the car. (Indy does this). AND of course there are times I would rather just shop. ;)

I think Tower of Terror is worth it too!

I expect something like this will happen on our trip in April. My 10yo ds is not excited about some rides - gets scared pretty easy. I expect there will be at least a couple of rides (Haunted Mansion, Screamin', Indiana Jones, maybe Tower of Terror) that he stands in line with us, and then will meet us at the exit instead of going on the ride.

I cannot see CMs forcing someone to ride something they don't want to.

They will not let a 10 year old wait while his parents are on a ride. I saw a family try to do this and the CMs made one parent wait with the child.

Another great queue is RSR, it's wonderfully themed! Unfortunately, if you have the time to appreciate the queue, it usually means you're waiting in at least an hour+ long line, which is never fun. :sad2: You might be able to do single rider later in the day, which may have less than an hour wait, and you'll be able to at least enjoy some of the queue. Or blaze through quickly in the Fastpass line and burn a Fastpass (but that would almost be a tragedy considering RSR FPs are so hard to come by :rotfl:).

Tower of Terror has a "chicken" exit, but there is at some point, the point of no return. Let the CM at the entrance know there you are not sure about riding it (afraid) and when is the last point for making that decision. The one and ONLY time I have ridden ToT, I asked and was very aware of where my point of no return was. In retrospect, I should I have taken it! :rotfl2:

A 10 year old is allowed on any attraction in the Park alone (height permitting) so I do not know why this would have been. Maybe there was some other issue. A 10 year old can absolutely wait at an exit for parents or friends.

I don't either. I can only say what I saw. The boy looked about 10 or 11. A little bigger that my girls, but they are thin. We were in line for Peter Pan and for some reason he didn't want to go. The Mom told him to wait at the exit and the CM stopped her and told her he couldn't do that. That she would have to wait with him. They argued for a minute (causing a bit of a scene). Then the Mom waited with him while the Dad went with a younger boy.

Thanks for your help guys!! This is all great info, hopefully with 5 months to go it gives me time to work on her, I'm aiming to get her on either splash mountain or Indiana jones when we get there!

She can watch them on You Tube ahead of time to get a feel for the rides. I just watched Splash Mountain on You Tube last night to see if my little boy was ready for it. (I can't go on rides like that because of my back, so I have no idea about what the ride is like.)

I have wondered the same thing--I have back problems (and now a knee injury, UG!) so I go on very few rides. I don't have a huge problem with waiting or entertaining myself, but I would definitely love to see some of the queues that I have missed. Of course, now standing for a long time in line is an issue with my knee (I will have an ECV to use when I need it), so I might not be able to do that anyway, but would love to even walk through the RSR line if we make it there early enough with the wide right. :-)

Are you nuts?! :lmao: If your DW is that scared of roller coasters, she needs to start with the Gadget Coaster instead of the "Drop of Death" (as I so eloquently refer to Splash Mountain :thumbsup2). Plus, we went on Indy last year and while is isn't a coaster, really, it bounces so hard, DD & I were just holding on to keep from flying up :rotfl:

I do not recommend these options, unless you never want her to ride a Disney coaster ever again (if she is as concerned as you say).

Personally, I hate coasters mainly due to the free fall butterflies, but also the feeling of being out of control and motion sickness. As such, i don't do any of them, and I have a great time otherwise. My fav is when the family rides BTMRR and SM, as I go to the Frontierland General Store area, get a soda, find a rocking chair or park bench, then sit, relax, and people watch. It's pretty awesome.

Of course another option would be to have DW run for fastpasses while you ride, which is fun by itself.

LOL, drop of death :rotfl2:

As someone with severe motion sickness, back problems, and just general dislike of any type of sudden movement, my advice is don't push it! I rode Soarin' once, which was such a gentle and completely awesome ride, but got so nauseated that I had to go back to the room and lay down for an hour (thankfully GCH). Totally NOT worth it!

I am able to ride Screamin' once per day....dd was able to ride Screamin' a never ending number of times...I didn't love the idea of her going up the fast pass line alone the first time, so I asked and they were fine with me waiting with her. When I got to the boarding point, the CM had me go on first and then climb all the way through to the exit side and he told me how to get around to find her after. It was super easy and they weren't surprised at all by the request. I did let her go up alone after that though and she had no troubles riding by herself over and over :)

Dh gets really motion sick...cannot even watch some of the rides moving. I have learned to NOT push it because if he goes on a ride and is miserable after, we are ALL miserable after. Not worth it, imo.

The FP line goes through virtually none of the theming, so that would indeed be a terrible waste of a FP! I think one can get his/her fill of Radiator Springs theming from the rest of CL without having to be tortured in the RSR line!
