Can you mobile order before entering the parks?

That's correct. They only put a limited number of the most popular seasonal items on the app in the morning. They're usually gone from the app quite early. But they're available for in-person purchase throughout the day, though some can still sell out if it's busy.
I've never gotten there early enough to do the candy canes. That is a different process for ordering, isn't it?

Yes, they are only available at two locations and with fewer dates this year — 7 days at Candy Palace and 7 different days at Trolley Treats. You have to be at the location and add your name and number to a waitlist. Then they will text you on when to return to purchase your candy cane. So people start lining up as soon as they can. It's a little potentially misleading, I think, because some blogs refer to a mobile waitlist or virtual queue, but you do have to be there in person.

I thought you had to be in or near the general vicinity of DLR to place a mobile order?

You need to be near the restaurant for pick up/clicking the "I'm here" button. But you can 100% order from outside the park. I just tested it and I'm in Canada.

Adding to the voices confirming you do not need to be in the vicinity to either mobile order or say "I'm here". I somewhat regularly place mobile orders from 400 miles away for friends' kids that are on trips to celebrate their birthdays or graduations (and if they have a friend with them, I get them an extra for their friend, of course).

I just send them a screenshot of the blue screen once ready for pick up just in case a CM is picky about wanting to see it.

Thanks for the advice. We got their early today and were able to purchase two candy canes (one per person). :santa:

Was in the parks yesterday and crowds were quite light. Even with that around noon Jolly Holiday was booking out until 3-4pm as earliest return time, I wager because of seasonal items. A note in case (like us) you had a hankering for grilled cheese and tomato soup. ;)

The best place I’ve found for the Mickey gingerbread is in the lobby of the grand. Can’t beat the ambiance, either. Now that all the influencers have their first post about them the supply should keep up. ;)

There are three types of gingerbread cookies. The DCA festival has a Mickey gingerbread cookie with sprinkles on top. It is sold at the booth and at Joffreys for $8 with no discounts. A much larger Mickey shaped gingerbread cookie with icing is $6.49 before discount at DLR, DCA, the hotels and at Marcelines. The cookie that is in demand is the gingerbread cookie that is shaped like a gingerbread man. It is thinner, softer and on a gold piece of cardboard, wrapped in plastic. It is $7.99 before any discount.
