Can you just visit a resort to see it?

A few years ago, the first time we visited at the holiday season, we rode around to a number of the hotels to see their decorations, etc. We have never been to AKL and I would love to check it out.

When driving what do we tell the parking guard? We don't really want to eat at any of the restaurants, just take a look around the resort. With all the time involved with Disney transportation I don't want to get tied up with all that.

Any suggestions or is it just not allowed?

Sure, it's allowed - just tell the guard that you are visiting to see the decorations. We've done it several times during our early December trips (including the AKL - the tree is awesome, IMHO). Doubt you will have any problems at all. Worst case, you might get a 3 or 4 hour parking pass.

I've done this plenty of times as well and never had a problem. If they do ask you more then just say that your stopping to get a bite to eat (say in the food court) and look around the resort at the decorations. I've seen all the resorts this way, this is how Disney gets you to stay there in the future. I usually do pickup something to eat in the food court as well as some of the deluxes do have a few different options, I also check out the shops that each have to offer. I think out of all the years that I have toured the various resorts, I have only been denied entry twice. Once 2 years ago at the Contemp. (guard stated he couldn't let me park in the lot as they had a large convention going on and told me to take the monorail in). The second time was at Coronado for same reason - large convention. Otherwise had no problems. All the resorts are beautiful.

In some ways this practice is bad for your budget. If you are staying in a value resort or a mod resort, and you just *Visit*
one of the deluxes, it can have you yearning for the deluxe really bad. This is how Disney keeps me going to WDW !
