Can You Go Back to a Studio?

in 2011 I bought 200 points so that my daughter and I can spend 10-12 nights in a studio each year, but due to COVID our 2020 vacation was canceled, so in 2021 we will be staying in a 1 bedroom because we have extra points. Are people able to go back to a studio after staying in a one bedroom, or will we be wanting to continue our stays in larger villas?

Will you want to stay at one bedrooms forever...sure !!! I wish I could afford a 2 bedroom all the time. But I always think, I can stay twice as long with a smaller space.

In the spring with our extra points, we are doing a BLT studio for five days, a one bedroom at AKL Kidani for four days, and then studio BWV for four days. First and probably only time a two week stay.

Now that my DD is getting older, studios aren’t an option anymore. We need those two bathrooms! It was also hard to go back once I had the laundry and the full kitchen. I like to cook a full breakfast for us every morning and dinners a few times a week. One-bedroom is our standard now with two-bedrooms when we can.

We started only booking 2BRs, in 1995. 4 kids.

25 years later, I book mostly studios. Kids grown and rarely come to parks, just once every few years. But I go 2-3X a year with my special needs adult son, who loves it so much.

Most of our travel is just DH and I but I am an early riser and he sleeps in late and goes to bed early. After skulking around in the dark for a few vacations, I made the policy that anytime we are somewhere more than 2 nights, we get a true suite (in a hotel) or a one bedroom at DVC. Keeps me happy and sane.

Once I stayed in a 1 bedroom, I will only do a studio if it’s me by myself or maybe my DD if I am short on points.

Any more than that I go with a bigger room, It is so hard to go back!

Yes, you can go back to a studio. But it’s never the same!
Totally agree. That’s hard enough but our last trip 1-1/2 weeks was in a upgrade (!) of a 2 bedroom at BLT. Just me and grown daughter. Holy cow. We were in Paradise.
Course booking our May trip just now, we are back to 2 studios instead. (Even that is an appreciated arrangement. Both bad sleepers).

Yes. We bought in 2006 with 3 little kids. Started off in 1BR and then graduated to a 2BR and now, as empty nesters, we do studios often. We do prefer a 1BR but feel perfectly fine in a studio if just 2 or 3 of us. And sometimes even 4. Maybe not for super long stays. I take my mom every now and again...and I can totally do 2-4 nights in studio with her. But could do longer with DH or my twin DDs (aged 21).

But maybe you can add points and do more 1BR. Could do split stay...start in studio and then move to 1BR.

If it’s just just my husband and me, we stay in a 1Br - more than that, at least a 2Br or multiple rooms...we’ve only stayed in a studio once for 2 nights at AK Kidani a number of years ago - nope - never again - it’s just not how we ‘roll’

While I prefer 1BRs (who doesn't!), I'm still fine with studios.

Yes, you can go back, but you will desire that extra space. For my wife it is the full kitchen and believe it or not the washer/dryer. We have a toddler, and it allows us to prep foods, and clean up after her, which is CRITICAL.

Also allows for less packing and saving money with easy grab and go breakfast, snacks, drinks.

When we bought in, we calculated our needs based on using 1BRs and occasionally getting a treehouse or cabin. We doubled our points since we first bought in, and we still go often enough that if I can economize on points, I do. More points saved means more vacations!

We took a large group of relatives a few years ago and drained all of our banked and borrowed points. We are finally back to our regular allotment of points. We used to rent a studio and then a 1 BR for a two week stay. But now we are tending to rent a studio. We are now retired and can go just about whenever we’d like. We’d rather go to WDW than not and if we have to stay in a studio that’s what we do. Leaving this Sunday for a 10 day BWV stay all standard studio.

We've done 1BR's a couple of times and 2BR when we brought family with us but still mostly do studios just fine. When it comes down to more trips vs 1BR the additional trips normally win out for us.

Thanks for the advice, I have a feeling we will not be able to return to a studio due to my desire to sleep in a room of my own. If anything we will change our vacation pattern and go two out of every three years instead of every year. We live on Vancouver Island and getting to Orlando is usually three plane rides, so going for longer stays less often makes sense.

Yes you can go back to a studio. We have been doing mainly studios since we bought in 2009. We do 2 bedrooms when traveling with family and friends...they get the studio side and we get the 1 bedroom side (sharing the living area in the daytime). We've done this 5 times...such a treat to do it! We did get an upgrade to a 1 bedroom once which was so nice! This summer we did a split stay...5 in VGF studio, 4 in BWV 1 bedroom, and 5 in AKV studio. 1 bedroom in the middle to have laundry in the room. (Original plan had the 1 bedroom right before our cruise...which got cancelled, so got AKV to cover us until our flight date.)

We've never stayed in a studio (only a 1BR on rented points, just bought our first contract -- yay!), but our "plan" now is to go with 2BR since we have two kids, and then cut back to a 1BR or studio depending on points so we can go multiple times a year when it's just myself and my wife.

We've generally always been a studio family, but every once in a while we wound up in a 1BR or 2BR. I have never felt too disappointed when going to a studio after that, because for me it's more the ambience of the resort than the room itself. You can shove me in a custodial closet at BWV and I'd rather do that than stay offsite lol. That said, I will be staying offsite for 2 nights in April followed by 3 nights in a studio at SSR, so we will see how that impacts my opinion of SSR studios as I've never stayed there.
