Can you get a key card for your room if you ask?

We will have magic bands on our trip in Oct but we are a family that will have 2 rooms. I have requested connecting rooms(not guaranteed, but have always gotten them). Is it possible to have our sons ask for a key card for their room for us to have in case we need to get into their room when they are not with us?

Yes. We do it most trips. We routinely get a 2 bedroom and a studio for our party of 7. I always get extra key cards for both villas so we can easily share the kitchen and washer/dryer.

Be prepared to dig in your heels, OP - last time I asked, the CM insisted key cards no longer exist. I had to argue with a manager and the whole ordeal took 20 minutes before I finally walked away with a key card. This was a year ago, so maybe they've come around since then, or maybe it was just that CM or that resort. Good luck!

They've also given me schtick about multiple key cards, saying they have a max for access to the room.

Traditional hotels I've had up to 12 cards with no problem...no magic at WDW.

There is another consideration....

EVERY Hotel Keylock System is a totally SEPARATE, local Database system. It tries to "download" from the central "Magic Band" Database - and sometimes? It FAILS.

Now- keeping a keylock system LOCALIZED to a single Hotel is GOOD.... If the central system fails? You can still get into your room. But there is a tradeoff...

Often, LOCAL and CENTRAL DataBases fail to synch. Then? The fun starts... "WHO IS AUTHORITATIVE". Who is God? The CENTRAL System, or the Local Hotel? It's actually possible to get the two to fight with each other.... .
