My friend is going to WDW with many family members and I mentioned that instead of gettting 3 hotel rooms, they might want to look into renting DVC from someone. (She didn't know about DVC.) She's intested now. However, she wonders if the 2 BRs will be big enough, while she's sure the grand villas are too large and too expensive.

What she really needs is a resort with a 3 BR that is NOT a grand villa....OR.....the ability to rent a 2BR which connects to a studio. That way, the majority of the family would stay in the 2 BR, while some would stay in the studio. Yet they would all be "together."

I told her I'd check with the experts here to see if that can be done. If it can, which resorts allow it?

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

No. The only connections with DVC rooms are studios to 1 bedrooms, forming a 2 bedroom. They only have 1 connection (so no studio to 1 bedroom to studio).

Grand Villa is just a name DVC has given to the 3-bedroom units (with a couple of exceptions). At Vero Beach, they are called Beach Cottages (still a three bedroom).

The only 3-bedroom that's not a Grand Villa are the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs. The Treehouse Villas are about the square footage and occupancy as a 2-bedroom at SSR, but have three actual bedrooms.

Since a 2 BR for all of the DVC resorts is larger than any 2 hotel rooms at WDW, I don't see how they could go wrong. Also if they rent a room at Kidani Village (does not include value villas) or BLT the 2 BRs include three bathrooms versus only two in all of the other DVC resorts.

The square footage for each DVC resort's two bedroom villa:

AKV Kidani - 1173
Jambo - 1075
Value - 945
BCV - 1083
BLT - 1152
BWV - 1073
OKW - 1395
SSR - 1075
VWL - 1080

Disney cash resort rooms:

Value resort rooms - 260 square feet

Moderate resort rooms - 314 sq. ft.

Deluxe resort rooms:
AKL and WL - 344
BC & YC - 381
BWI - 371
Contemporary Resort - 394
Polynesian Resort - 415
Grand Floridian - 440 Sq. ft.

We have done a 2 BR and a studio for a family trip and had them request that they be close together. Both times they were in the same building at OKW just not the same floor. It worked out fine.

How many people does she have going?? And when is she going? Both of those may make a difference.
