Can you freeze cooked steel cut oatmeal? Tips or Tricks?

I would think you can. I often make oatmeal the night before, refrigerate it, then take it to work and add some milk to it and reheat and it's fine. I can't see any way that freezing would mess it up. Also, Trader Joe's sells precooked steel cut oatmeal in freezer packs and it reheats well also. So YES YOU CAN!

What in the world is steel cut oatmeal, lol.

Most oatmeal is sold where it's "rolled" flat and cooks faster as a result. Some may be steamed and dried which allows them to cook even faster. Whole oat groats don't cook very easily, so they're generally cut by machines into uneven pieces where the inside is exposed. It still takes a long time to cook though. I prefer to cook them for a few minutes then allow it to sit before heating it later. It has a tendency to burn.

Another description is "Irish style oatmeal" as this is common in Ireland, especially with McCann's.

Even though it's already mush, I would think that freezing and reheating might turn it to something way too soft, like when I've made steel cut oats and reheated it 3-4 times when I made too much.

I eat it pretty much every day but have never frozen it. What I do make is baked oatmeal which you can definitely freeze. Tastes great either warmed up or room temperature.
