Can you feel the ship moving?

All of a sudden I've become concerned about how much rocking the ship does. I'm not worried about the forward motion, but of the possibility of the ship bobbing. I'm actually getting nervous about it! Someone, please help!

I was on the Wonder 9/2 Endless Cruise ... the ship did rock badly from side-to-side our first night out.

But that was due to Hurricane Frances ... our asst. server even made mention of the fact that the ship had never rocked so badly and it was affecting the CM's too.

Once we were away from Frances I really didn't notice the motion.

Last year you could feel it some in the Walt Disney Theater and I could feel it a little at night but it helped me get to sleep. Our last night it was very rocky and did have a hard time walking at times, although those that had a few drinks were having a harder time :D .

I should also mention I didn't have sea bands or take any medication but my dh did and he didn't seem to feel it like I did.

You can definately feel the sway of the ship, sometimes more than others. I find it kind of soothing once I get used to it.

We noticed that if you got out on deck so you could see the ocean, you stopped noticing the movement. It was mostly down the halls that we noticed it.

On our last night, the day at sea... We noticed we were rocking a little bit because we were going almost full speed, trying to avoid a VERY nasty lightning storm.. On the 8/22 Wonder..

So basicly, unless theres a storm, or the ship is delayed, you wont feel the ship rocking that much..pirate:

We felt the ship rocking no matter what the swells were. We got use to it though & maybe thanks to bonine, didn't get sick. The commedian joked that you could tell the sober people because they were the ones staggering down the halls while the ones who were drinking walked straight like nothing was happening. :)

It may be that I'm completely insensitive to such things, but I don't remember feeling the ship rocking at all on our cruise in May of '03. I could feel, especially when lying down in bed, that it was moving forward, but not any rocking.
My husband says that there was one time when he was really /trying/ to feel it in the bathroom, he kinda felt it. But he was paying extra close attention.
Then again, we were in very calm waters in May. I'm sure that rougher waters (like the last few weeks!) you would certainly feel it.
Check what kind of weather you might experience by going to Weather Underground and going to one of the Ports of Call. There should be a button called "Trip Planner" there, and you can look at what the weather has been like for years on the date you need.

If you want to know if the ship is moving look at the curtains in the WDT - you may need to look away if you are sensitive

you can feel it a very little but nothing to worry about if you feel a little queasy sit down get your feet off the ground and order your favorite cocktail

on RCCL in 8/04 our ship was rolling side to side, I had the 'patch' on and was fine, my sister had on the wrist bands and she was ok, bil and Mom used nothing and were fine.

It rocked a fair bit the first night of my 7 night, 2/28/04 western. Made my wife seasick but after putting on wrist bands, she was fine. It rocked so much that we had to keep a hand on the wall while walking to keep from falling. To Barb's point, the curtains in the WDT were swaying alot as well.

I also did a March Wonder cruise and the rocking was very, very slight.

I did the July 4 Wonder cruise. I am very prone tomotion sickness. I took Bonine the night before the cruise and throughout the vruise. I only felt a little motion the first and last nighT as we crossed the Gulf stream. I was pleasantly surprised!

With the stabilizers there is far less left to right. Not much they can do about bow to stern motion. You shouldn't have any problem. I shot some videotape up by the basketball courts on the bow, looking back towards the stern, and it was only after I got home and looked at the tape that I realized how much the ship was bobbing bow to stern. Never felt it.
And we were on what the crew said was the roughest seas they had experienced, we had gale force winds. Very odd, standing on the bow, in front of the windscreen in front of the basketball courts, with 85 degree gail force winds hitting you.

My daughter took me on the Wolnder in April. I was really afraid of getting sea sick. AI brought two kinds of medication--just in case. The first and the last nights, you could certainly tell the ship was rocking (the last night they warned us to be careful walking around the ship). However, it was really not that bad. I didn't take any of the medication. We are actually cruising again Jan 30!!!. Don't worry--it isn't that bad. (This coming from a big wimp!!)

For a different perspective, NOT feeling the rocking is what DD complains the most about when she's home on vacation from the Magic. Her bed DOESN'T rock her to sleep.

For normal landlubbers, yes I did notice the motion some on the ship in May. I agree with others that it seemed the most noticable in the halls and you could see the curtains in the Walt Disney Theater moving and one night you could see the curtain between our bed and the couch in our stateroom moving. But to agree with DD, I slept better on the Magic than I can remember sleeping in a long time.....I wanna go back!

That is very true! I fell asleep very quickly on the ship. The last night was a little rough. After getting into bed I remember the motion was up & down. We were in 7010 forward so it was like the front would go up over a wave & hang there before going back down & then right back up.

I'm not worried about getting sea sick...I'm just worried about feeling insecure on a ship that bobs side to side, like it's going to tip over. (I know that won't happen!) I've never been on a ship before, so I just want to be prepared. Thanks for all the responses.

Aisling...you will not feel like the will tip over at all....you will be amazed how smooth the ship is .

We've always felt it more the first night out and the last night. The ship is moving faster those 2 nights. We love it.
