Can you do this?

I have a studio booked at BCV at 11 months. If I decide to switch that reservation to a 1BR at BCV at the 7 month mark, can I use points from my AKV contract?

I know that I cannot switch out my BCV points for my AKV points if I keep the same studio. But, I was wondering if it was legal to do it if I switch the type of unit (which of course will require more points).

Thanks!

Yes, not a problem, as you would be booking an entirely new reservation at 7 months. In fact, if you have enough AKV points, I'd make the new 1 bedroom reservation and then cancel the studio.

You could also book a studio if it were available at 7 months with your AKV points and cancel the one made with BCV points if you wished. You don't have to change room types. What you can't do is have them substitue AKV points for your BCV points if you made the reservation during your home priority period.

If you decide to stay with the studio there would need to be at least 1 more studio unit available than your booked studio unit at BCV when 7 month window opens in order for MS to substitute your AKV points for BCV points; otherwise it defeats the purpose of owner's priority booking window if points from another resort can just be substituted at 7 months or less.

Best wishes on your planning :goodvibes

My plan is to move from a studio to a 1BR, not substitute my BCV points for my AKV points to remain at the studio. If I remain with the studio, I don't need to switch the points around.

I don't have enough BCV points to cover a 1BR reservation during home resort advantage time, so I have to wait until 7 months so that I can use some of my AKV points as well.

Thank you all for your responses. It sounds like I can do what I want to do. :)

yes you can do what you are asking, but be careful and make sure they check the availability of your current ressie before canceling the studio.
In other words, correct me if I am wrong, but you seem to need both the ak and the bc points to get the 1 br, so in order to book the 1 br you will need to cancel your studio so that you will have enough points... I just fear that you cancel the studio, then for whatever reason the 1br gets booked by someone else so you have to go back to the studio and now that is gone too. Not sure if I am making sense. But just check that they have a few 1 br available as well as a few studios just in case the 1 br gets booked while you are cancelling the studio..(since as far as I know they cannot hold 1 room while cancelling the other)
Is this correct Chuck?
