Tomorrow my boys are making their confirmation and of course, it's also Mother's Day. We've decided to have a BBQ to celebrate the both together.

When it comes to making stuff for picnics, birthdays, special occasions, I am one who prepares everything THAT DAY. I usually get up early in the morning and cut up stuff for the veggie/fruit tray, slice cheese for the cheese/pepperoni tray, slice up all the onion, tomato, pickles, etc for the burgers......you get my drift. I will also make the deviled eggs and brownies or cookies that morning too. I don't know why I am like that but have always been.

Now tomorrow, the confirmation is at 9:15am with the BBQ shortly after we all get home. So I won't have time to get everything done without feeling really rushed (which I hate).

So I was wondering if I could prepare the following today to use for tomorrow. I'm pretty much guessing I can, but I was just wondering if other people prepare the day ahead also.

---sweet/sour kielbasa (just want to slice it up and make the sauce today)
---cut up the fruit for fruit salad
---cut up the onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato
---deviled eggs

What would you make today and what would you leave for tomorrow?

I would do everything today except for slicing the burger toppings.

I would do everything except the tomatoes and lettuce. They could become soggy. As for the fruit salad, I find it's better after the flavors mingle a bit anyway.

This, now, if you are having watermelon in your fruit salad slice it last minute too, it makes it very soupy if you do it a day earlier.

Your menu sounds yummy!

I'm completely the opposite. Anything I can get done the day before I will do. The things you're making? I would do them all the day before. I hate leaving much of anything for the day of.

Like tomorrow, we're having my Mom and our kids and grandkids here for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day. I am making the salads and cake today, and cutting up the veggies for the veggie tray, and the onions for the burgers, etc. I like going to bed at night knowing I have as much done as possible.

I wouldn't put the deviled eggs together until tomorrow. I think they get rubbery when they sit. I would do everything but the eggs, lettuce and tomato ahead of time.

not sure what you put in your fruit salad but save bananas for tomorrow or they will go brown HAVE FUN

Unless you have a lot of refrigeration room, don't make the devilled eggs. Anything that is made with mayonnaise can pose a serious health risk.

Everything but the hamburger toppings today. You can do the fruit salad and drizzle some lemon juice on top to help the fruit from turning brown.

What about boiling, peeling, slicing and removing he yolk? At what point should she stop? I would at least get the boiling and peeling done today.

I agree. AS other poster have said, fruit is better, IHMO, when it sits for a day and gets all close with it's friends. lol. But deviled eggs, I only like them the day they are made. But hey I am strange, I am the type person that won't make a sandwich the night before, yuck.

I would cut up the fruit today but put it in separate containers, line the container with a couple paper towels to keep the fruit from getting soggy. You can cut up the onions and tomatoes today, just seal them well in a plastic bag or container so your fridge doesn't smell like onions. I don't like deviled eggs so I have never made them so I can't help there.

For the Fruit salad-be sure you have an orange-it will keep the apples from browning:)

I have had many BBQ's and I would do everything but the deviled eggs the day before. I would mix the fruit unless you are using fruit that browns really easily, then I would leave that for just before serving. The burger toppings I would do but put in separate containers or ziplocks. I would do the eggs just before so they taste freshest. The sausage would be fine sliced ~ just toss in a ziplock and refrigerate and same with the sauce.

the combo of mayo and any protein is risky.

Yes, but you could cook and peel them today. I guess you could take out the yolks as well. Just mix with mayo and seasonings last minute.
