I have never had it before but it started yesterday and is worse today. It is driving me bonkers!

I had it last month. you have to rest your voice & I took tylenol or advil every 4 to 5 hours. Rock Candy helps me with the pain. Drank alot of hot tea.

It is so important that you rest your voice. Otherwise, you could be causing more damage and the laryngitis could last even longer. Just curious, do you have a cold virus or do you think it is from overusing your voice (talking too much)? Especially if it is from overuse, try your hardest to not keep overusing it. Also, check with your doctor if it persists for more than 2 weeks because that is the average length of time for laryngitis. Any longer could be a sign of a more serious problem. So rest, rest, rest your voice, drink a lot of water, stay away from too much caffeine and alcohol (they dehydrate you), and if you smoke, try to cut back as much as you can.

No I'm not a Dr. I'm a speech pathologist in training and just took a very intense course on voice disorders (laryngitis is one of them).

I have a cold. I have been trying to rest my voice as much as possible and I don't smoke. I don't know if I can go 2 weeks like this :scared1: . I was hoping there was something I could drink or take that would help. Oh, well. I had DD leave a bunch of phone messages for me yesterday. She thought that was pretty funny!

The previous posters have mentioned some good ideas. You might also try gargling with salt water several times a day (table salt dissoved in warm water-should be saltier that ocean water). I also try and keep some kind of hard candy/cough drop in my mouth constantly to keep my throat from becoming more irritated. Try and talk with your fingers (here on DIS) and let your throat rest. Usually it only lasts a few days when I baby my voice/throat. Hope you're back to your healthy self soon.

Don't talk at all.
Don't whisper either - that is even worse for your throat (so I've been told).
