I was doing a LO of my 4 yr old with ET at Universal and then came across my 14 yr old (when he was 7) in a pic with ET but its an instant pic. I wasnt sure if I could crop it or not and if it would ruin the picture.

Thanks!

No!!! If you want to use it, but not show all the white... I'd suggest "framing" it with cardstock instead!! (They'll fall to pieces if you cut them.)

Take it to the picture kiosk. You can crop it and make it the exact size you want.

I was going to say you could scan it and have a print made. Those you can crop.

I saw a thing on a scrapbooking show (I think it was DIY Scrapbooking but I'm not sure) and they had someone from Poloroid on and she said it was perfectly fine to cut up a poloroid and it was just a myth that you couldn't.

That said, I wouldn't risk it either. I would either frame it like suggested or take it to a photo kiosk and have copies made. That way your original is safe and you could make more copies later if you wanted.

I think I will make copies and then try to crop the original just to see what happens.

Actually, I was speaking from personal experience. A friend had sent me a bunch of pictures she wanted scrapped of her permature son. She had cut up these polaroids and they were falling apart... in layers.

Oh my! I wonder why they would tell people it's ok then: that is weird! Hope you were able to salvage the pictures of your friend's son.

I didn't even think of scanninng and printing them! :( I salvaged them as best I could... using the frames and making sure that they held together. (Sadly, he only survived about a month and these were the only pictures she had of him.) The pictures were taken in I wanna say maybe 1996 (I can't remember)? She sent them to me in 2002, I think.

Maybe the show you saw was about current polaroids? Maybe you can cut those? But I think the OP said the picture was fairly old?

My picture is about 7 years old. Its is of my 14 yr old when he was 7. I dont have a scanner so I will have to take it to Wal-Mart or the like and get it scanned before I can let you know how it holds up on the cropping.
I was looking at a couple other Universal pics we had taken then too--my 2 oldest with the JP dinosaur and they are polaroids as well.
