just wondering...can dvc members actually check on availability from the waltdisneyworld.com website?

reason I ask is because I see boardwalk studio stand villas are availble the week in dec I want to go...does this mean they are availble for us dvc members to book?

if not..why?

No, what you see are rooms that have been turned over to CRO - its a seperate inventory than DVC rooms. Those "standard views" aren't DVC categorized standard views either - those aren't available for cash and don't get turned over to CRO under most circumstances.

interesting ...but why wouldn't they make these available to dvc members too. seems to me disney would get more money if some stays in that room and spends money in the parks rather than it being empty?

of course maybe disney just assumes dvc members will go stay dvc somewhere else..but then again maybe not if they are short on points

surprised to hear disney does not make available some rooms at the dvc resorts for dvc members

Those villas don't belong to the members, they belong to DVC.

There are two separate inventories. DVC retains ownership of a tiny percentage (< 10%) of the points at each DVC resort. These are used if they have to take a villa out of service for maintenance issues. If the rooms aren't needed, they go to CRO, and become available for booking for cash.

Also, if members trade out for II, or the Concierge Collection, etc., the villa that they would have used is 'sold' to CRO. That's how those options are paid for.

As previous posters have indicated, there are differnces in inventory, and sevelal ways that Disney/CRO gains control of rooms from DVC Inventory.

1) Developers Points...these are points that are available for sale to DVC members, but are not yet sold. These come from ponts garnered by Disney through ROFR contracts, or in the case of SSR, buildings that are finished, declared into DVC inventory, but not yet have points sold. Developers points can be used for promotions for sales, by CRO to sell for cash, or for upgrades from other WDW Resorts.

2) Member Trades...When a member trades out to any location, except through Interval International, a room is turned over to CRO for cash to offset the cost of that trade.

3) 60day unreserved inventory...If DVC Owner rooms are not fully reserved by DVC members, the inventory is turned over to CRO for cash reservations. These rooms, if not rented, can also be "reclaimed" by DVC Member Services for members...but they are probably the least likely source of CRO Rooms.

4) Retained ownership...Disney/DVC retains ownership of a small percentage of rooms (estimated at 4% to 6%) for maintenance and "emergency upgrades". If unneeded for maintenance, CRO can rent these for cash.

The only one of these can can be re-claimed by Member Services is the 60day turnover, otherwise, once a room is in CRO inventory, it is not available to DVC members on points.

Actually, they are. But you are going to have to pay cash to CRO and not book on points. You will get daily housekeeping when you pay cash to CRO. And you won't get member perks tied to staying on points like pool hopping.
