Can you change the Mega-Pixel settings?

I just received a Canon Poweshot SX150 IS as a possible replacement for my 3SIS, which I loved but seemed to be lacking in quality lately. The SX150 appears to have many of the same features as the 3S, but I am kind of weary because it is so small (which is a great thing!). I read in one of the reviews that the mega-pixel setting of 14 is actually kind of "too high" and the reviewer recommended lowering the setting to 12 or so, as he did. How do you this? I really am an amateur who happens to take some great shots, but I am not camera trained so I am confused by all this. Any help would be appreciated. I need to learn fast because DD's graduation is in 4 days!

TIA :thumbsup2

Leave it on the highest setting. IMO it's better to have too many pixels than not enough. You can always take away when you edit the image but you can't add back in without some image degradation. Memory cards are cheap, hard drives are cheaper, and knocking it from 14 to 12 or even 10 isn't going to make the files that much smaller anyway.
