If I book a room only with an AAA and a Visa package code comes out, can I change my room only to a package if the discount is better? Can they do this without cancelling and rebooking and having the chance of losing my room?

I just made my ressies today, and I was told today by Disney, but maybe I misheard- because I was just reading on the board you couldn't. :confused3

I could have SWORN that you could always upgrade from a room only to a package, you just couldn't downgrade from a package to a room only. I would LOVE some clarification, as well! We have a room only right now, because I like the 5 day cancellation better than the 45 day cancellation- and I was planning on adding tickets like 2 weeks before we go. (Just in case something happens and we have to cancel, I'll know by then). I hope I can still do that!!!!

I booked a AAA room and 4 park hoppers about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Yesterday I changed to the Visa package with the free WP&M upgrade. The CM cancelled the old reservation and made a new one. I had a preferred room at ASMo and I got the same thing with the package. Might be harder to get the same room at a better resort. Surprisingly, the package was cheaper. I didn't ask if he could just add the code to my old reservation, so I can't say for sure that you can't do that, but the CM didn't offer to do it that way. When the Visa offer you want is announced, you should just call them and try it.

There is no ability to convert a room only to a package.

They are two different beasts.

If you make a room only, it must be cancelled and a new vacation package booking completed.

The first day the AP discounts came out I booked a room only using the AP discount code. The next day I decided to add the DDP to it. Because adding the DDP to it made it a pkg, the CM had to cancel my room only ressie, credit my credit card back, then recharged my credit card, and gave me a new confirmation number, (as well as a cancellation number for the room only reservation I had made the day before). I don't have the confirmation numbers here in front of me, but the room only confirmation numbers are like 12 digits whereas the pkg confirmation numbers have only like 9 digits. The CM said they are totally different and he couldn't just move the money from my room only ressie over to my pkg ressie. It was funny because I paid both ressies in full, and the new pkg ressie got charged to my credit card the very next day, whereas it took several more days to get the room only ressie credited back. Disney had several thousand dollars tied up on my credit card there for awhile.

Your room only reservation will be cancelled and your room only deposit will be refunded to you. I was told a week to two weeks. (I received mine in just 6 days.)

They will then book a package for you. You will be required to pay a package deposit (normally $200.00) within fourteen days from the date the package was booked. You can then begin making payments on your package. There is no limit to the number of payments that can be made. The payments must be a minimum of $20.00 and it must be paid in full by 45 days prior to your arrival.

If your arrival date is 45 days or less from the time you book a package, you will be required to pay the entire amount.

I did the same thing. Had a room-only ressie, when the free PH/WP&M deal came out I called the AAA agent and she cancelled my original reservation and re-booked the package. They credited my original deposit to my account and then charged me a new slightly-larger amount deposit.

NOTE: The first time the AAA agent called Disney, they told her the resort we were staying at was already booked for that deal so I was bummed. She apparently called back out of disbelief and a different CM made the switch for her no problem. It pays to be persistent!!!!!!

When I booked my rooom only with AP rate asked if I could later add on the meal plan. He said I could up to 3 days before arrival, and as others have said, they would need to cancel and rebook, but I could keep the same rate.
