I posted a question a while back about buying disney dollars with gift cards. Someone replied saying that the CMs said that it was allowed. Well, today I tried to use a $25 gift card to buy DDs, and the CM told me that I could not. She said that gift cards are only good toward merchandise, and DDs are not merchandise.

Has anyone had success with this? I ask because I just recently bought a bunch of gift cards on ebay with the intention of using them toward disney dollars

Thanks!

I have tried before and NO was the answer I got...I have read of success from other DISers...but not in my area....

I do this at my DS regularly. It does not say on the back of the gift card that you cannot purchase them, only not another gift card. One CM did say the registers won't accept it and then she tried it and it worked. Try it again and ask a manager about it.

Thank you for your responses. :) It looks like it just varies from store to store. Oh well, maybe I'll try again at a different store at a later time.

YES, I just bought dd's with girft cards I got off the internet.

Keep checking.

Maybe you have a relative or close friend in another part of the country that can exchange the cards fo ryou.

Herc.

If it is a gift card that Disney issued as a gift such as the $10 gift card you get when pre-purchasing Beauty and the Beast, then no. But is it is one that someone paid cash for, you should be able to.

I was able to use my Beauty and the Beast $10 gift card to get 10 Disney Dollars even.

I guess I don't understand what the problem would be? If you can only use the gift cards for Disney Merchandise -- why not Disney Dollars? It's not like you can spend the Disney Dollars anywhere else but Disney, right!?

Disney Dollars can be spent on any Disney property. Disney Store Gift Cards are given away with the assumption that you will come back to visit us again. They are not for the profit of WDW or DL like Disney Dollars are. Simple business logic.

Kaelyn is correct: when you received a gift card as a gift with purchase, it is supposed to come back to the store when you redeem it on merchandise. Disney Dollars can be spent at WDW/DL and therefore don't adhere to that policy. Plus, those gift cards with purchase are like being given $10 off your next purchase, and the stores would like to see it spent back there, that is the purpose of those gift cards.

Regular gift cards that are purchased and given as gifts, should be able to be used to purchase DDollars.
