Can you buy discounted Blue Man Group before activating AP?

When I go to the AP link of discounts, they ask for the AP info. If I put that in, will that activate the AP before? Or will it work at all? We're hoping not to activate our AP's until the first day of parks - which is what I read to do. But, we need Blue Man tickets and I'd rather buy those ahead of time if possible.
