Can you buy and use AP discount before claiming?

We will be traveling next Jan. I am wondering if I can buy the AP with the DVC discount now and then use the AP discount to book rooms for our last weekend (want to use cash) even though I won't even "claim" my passes until I get there next Jan.

As a matter of fact, can I wait that long to pick them up at the parks, or do I have to wait to buy them until right before I go?

I am booking my 11mth window rooms at BWV and will be short of points for 10days of a 2 bedroom. Want to use cash for last weekend and am willing to move to another resort if necessary (which it sounds from other postings like it might be). I will admit to being very confused by this whole process. This will only be our second trip and the first one was very straight forward, so I have yet to challenge myself on the ins and outs of booking for the best value. Any help? :confused3

Please be very specific in your help, as I am pretty dumb with all of this stuff.

You simply have to have the pass at check in. (at least that is the current policy)

Yes you can do exactly that but you don't have to. You can buy the voucher now or wait until later in the year. Go ahead and make your 11 month reservations now and then when AP discounts are announced for WDW, make a reservation then using the AP discount. But you still don't have to own an AP or a voucher. As long as you have the AP in your hand when you check in (as lllovell said) is all that matters.

I would suggest that you wait on the AP since you don't need it for almost 1 year.
