Can you buy a gift card with a gift card?

Just wondering, if I could purchase a gift card with a gift card? I received several Michaels gift cards for christmas and I wondered if I could use one of them to purchase a different gift card. Anyone every done this?

I had the same question till last week. I got a CVS giftcard for transferring a new perscription. I tried to buy a Red Lobster giftcard with it. NO GO! The cashier was very nice about it and explained I could not do that. When I got back to the car I read the back of it and it said I could not buy a giftcard with a giftcard. Check the back, if nothing then I would try it.

Target allows you to combine multiple gift cards onto one. I would ask Michael's if they do the same thing.

I've never been able to get a store to let me buy a different kind of gift card...example, use a Target Gift card to purchase itunes or Amazon.

Probably not. I had Amazon gift cards that I wanted to use for Disney gift cards and it wouldn't work.

There's a very good reason you can't use say a Michael's gift card to buy a Disney gift card, for example. The card has been purchased and the store it is for has been paid. They are not interchangeable. Now, a Visa gift card is a different animal all together as it's considered a credit card and the money is paid to the seller via Visa.

I would certainly ask. I know you can do this at Target, and at some Walgreen's. (kind of depends on the particular store.)

If it is close by- just stop in, or if stopping by isn't too convenient, then call first!

Sometimes it just depends on the cashier and whether or not their system will let it go through. We had a refund via gift card for a defective product through Office Max once and we turned around and used it on a Toys R Us card. Cashier said she wasn't sure if they'd allow it, but if it would she didn't have a problem with it. No problems, but we did buy over the price ($56.XX Office Max gift card for $100 Toys R Us)

I get Sears gift cards and use them at KMart to buy restaurant gift cards. Never had trouble doing this.

I don't know about Michaels. I have purchased gift cards at Kmart, using both Kmart and Sears gift cards. (Got BP Amoco, Southwest Airlines, and Subway --they also have a few other restaurants).

I asked at Kohls one time, and was told you could use gift cards to buy other gift cards, but cannot use "merchandise credits" to buy gift cards.

I tried at Penneys one time, and they cannot do it.
