Can you bring your own can soda to the food court ASM?

Fascinating. Not exactly why people care so much about what other people do.

OP. You bring your cans in to the food court. Period.

I don't drink caffiene or sugar, I hate sprite, and I have no intention of drinking just water for my whole vacation. I drink diet decaf pepsi, and unsweetened decaf iced tea. Last trip to POFQ, there were NO refillable drink options for me. If Disney wants to start providing me with an option, then they can complain. They won't complain though, because they're Disney, and they don't CARE what you are drinking.

Disney CARES about good customer service designed tobring you back for another vacation where you will spend $$$$$$ on room and tickets. A can of soda???? Really???Let's look at the larger picture here.

P.s. I'm allowed to sit in that food court even if I spend $1.00. Are you food court police really saying that someone who spends $30 on food but brings a can of soda shouldn't be allowed? No need to answer ;). The answer is obvious.

Deb

It is fascinating - I'm wondering why so many of us keep posting here :rotfl:. I'll go even further than you - I think I'm entitled to sit in that food court if I spend nothing - I really don't think there's a rule against it. Again, good manners will make me move if table space becomes an issue. Just like I'll move if we're finished our meal and table space is an issue - say at Pecos Bills or something. But if we're finished our meal and its not crowded, who would care if we sat there all day?

We are trying to do an ultra budget trip this April. We are staying at ASMovies and will bring our own breakfasty stuff and some snack items (We're driving). Usually when we do ultra budget w/o meal plan we also bring our own canned sodas and if we go to the food court we bring the food back to the room so as not to be tacky or possibly breaking a rule of some sort by buying food from the food court but bringing our own sodas. I was thinking it would be nice to eat in the food court instead so the girls could enjoy the atmosphere and space. We would be buying food there but it just kills me to spend 2 bucks each for a drink. We won't be staying there long enough to make the mugs worthwhile since we are bound to eat at least one meal in the park per day for our four nights.

We do actually have the most recent mugs from our August trip but I'm not going there with that one at all.

So, we can live with bringing the food back to our room but if it is acceptable to buy dinner itself at the food court but have brought our own sodas I would like that better. I tried to search this question but I didn't come up with any results that addressed it.

Thanks!

You mention you don't want to be tacky about bringing your own pop so you usually take your meals back to your room. But now you think its not tacky and want to know if its ok? :confused3 I must be tired!! :rotfl2:

Why not just drink tap water? Its free , making it ultra budget friendly, and it won't be tacky at all, and drinking water is good for you! Win win win!!

Hmmm. Your comment is surprisingly unmagical. The reason I asked is because it is not pleasant to carry our meals back to our room. I have done it before because I am such a rule follower. However, the food is cold by then. So, I thought to myself, perhaps I am not giving people enough credit by thinking they would be bothered by me bringing a can or two of soda to the food court when we are buying meals and milk (which I require my daughters to drink at every evening meal). So, I asked the question. Could I survive without a few sips of soda... yes I could. In fact, that is how I am paying for our trip... by limiting the amount I spend on lunch to one dollar for the entire school year. So, yes, thank you, I am familiar with tap water.

I drink plenty of water, thank you so much for being concerned about my health. I think your comments were very ugly and completely unnecessary. I'm so glad my question made you Roll On The Floor Laughing. It must have really made your day to laugh at me.

What I don't understand is why some people care so much about what other people do that Disney finds perfectly legal. The OP isn't talking about bringing her McDonald's into the food court, she is buying food, and bringing a couple of sodas from her room. Disney doesn't care, why should other guest? Would it be better if she bought food from the food court, and three free waters, therefore costing Disney money on the price of the cups? I can understand the whole bringing your own food from home, and eating in a crowded food court taking away tables from people who are purchasing food from the food court. That would be wrong, but if the food court is empty, who cares? You are using a common area of the hotel. What about if large extended family travels together, and they use the food court in the evening, after the dinner rush, to sit around and play a game of cards? If no one who purchased food needs that table would it be a big deal? And.. If disney had a policy about bringing outside food and beverages into their food court, why on earth would they have toasters and microwaves in the food court area? Why wouldn't they tell people, "sorry, no outside food and beverages". What about the people who bring their own drinks and snacks into the parks? Disney clearly states in their rules that their guests can bring their own food in the parks as long as it is in a soft sided cooler, a certain size, and without wheels. If I sit down on a park bench with my bottled water I brought from home am I doing Disney an injustice because I didn't spend over 2 bucks on one bottled water, even though I purchased the DDP, and I am eating 100% of my meals on property?

I am sorry, but some people really need to stop worrying about things that Disney ALLOWS. I don't think it is right to reuse mugs, but who cares if someone brings their own canned soda. If disney served pepsi, I would so bring my own drink because I can't STAND pepsi! What about people who drink water at restuarants? Should we look down upon them? Are they freeloading because they either wanted to save money, or just drink water?

To the OP, bring your sodas to the food court. I promise, you most likey wont run into anyone who has so much time on their hands they are worrying about what you are doing. Plus, you will not be breaking ANY of Disney rules.

And... by gum, I'm bringing my can of soda. So there!

:thumbsup2 I'll drink to that. Cheers! :drinking1

I applaud you for knowing what sacrifices you are willing and able to make in order to have you family fun in WDW! I think it is too easy for others to look down their noses. Maybe throwing away an extra 10 or 20 dollars a day on pop and water is meaningless in their world, but often for a family with young children it is not meaningless!

Did it plenty of times AND seen others do it as well. We even took chips as well as our drinks and bought sandwiches. This was before the DDP and when we needed to do budget trips. Sometimes we got sandwiches from the food court and took back to our room and added our own drinks, chips, cookies. Other time took our food to Food Court. Had cm's stop and chat more than once while we were eating! I OFTEN take my own bottle drink into fast food places as I only drink caffine free/ diet and it is VERY hard to find most places.

I'm rolling on the floor laughing? I was using that smiley to laugh at myself that I am tired. I am very, very tired and thought that is why I didn't understand your post.

I'm sorry that my comments were taken in a way I didn't intend. I was confused. It seemed like you were saying you thought it was tacky to bring your own pop. But then it sounded like you were asking if you could bring your own pop. I was confused why you were asking when you thought it was tacky. It sounded like you already had your mind made up.

I sincerely apologize you thought I was laughing at you. I've never intentionally hurt someone on these boards. I have a great reputation here, and I hope you'll accept my apology.

I was simply pointing out that tap water is available, it is free, and you (or I guess *I*) wouldn't feel tacky about drinking tap water. It is free, it is cheap, and its good for you.

I originally was going to private message you, but I thought I would post it here so everyone could see that I did not mean to be mean or laugh at you. That was not the case at all.

And honestly, I don't think its a big deal to bring your pop, even if you DON'T buy anything! I just though that you thought it was tacky. I was providing an alternative.

Again, I am very, very sorry. Please know I was not laughing at you.

Some other posters got really carried away, but I didn't join in their rants about the stuff they were going on about. I was just trying to help. Honest.

I hope you'll forgive me and realize I was not trying to hurt or laugh at you.

Please accept my apology.

dunbarfamily - I know it wasn't for me, but that was a really nice, sincere apology :goodvibes. Its so refreshing to read something like that.

Thank you very much for that, Skater. I really honestly did not mean anything bad. I feel terrible. When I read what she wrote, I cried. I fell so terrible. I did send her a pm and I hope she'll read it. I've never had anyone say something so sad to me here on Dis, and I hope I never do anything to cause such remarks again. :(

I don't try to get involved in heated debate here on Dis, and most of the time am the neutral voice if I do get involved in something that will have strong opinions on each side.

I try to make sure my comments are positive and upbeat, and that's why I was poking fun of myself. Sadly, I did not do very well.

Thank you again. That means a lot to me.

By all means bring your own can of soda and good for you for doing so! Some of these replies have been hard to follow I must say.:confused3

Bottom line, you are buying food. Frankly, if it were me, I'd pour them into the mug I have because I prefer to drink my soda from a glass with ice. Those food courts are busy and believe me, nobody is going to be policing what anyone is drinking. You could probably bring a battery operated blender and make margaritas tableside and nobody would say a thing to you except to ask if they could have one too!

The food court was intended for families to eat meals at their resort in a quick, convenient, cost effective environment. You will be fine.

Drinks at meals get so expensive! And for what its worth, we take our cans of soda into the parks with us quite often or our water bottles or ice tea that I make myself (this is when we stay in a villa with a kitchen) and drink it with our food we bought at the cs places.

The only time I ever noticed what someone else was drinking/eating at Disney was when I was waiting in line for a handicapped restroom and when the door finally opened a lady strolled out of there snacking on a slice of pizza.

Wow, talk about multi-tasking!:rotfl2:

As to soda cans, unless you plan on drinking them while naked and doing jumping jacks, I cannot imagine noticing. Drink with gusto!

As I mentioned in my reply to your PM I am happy to hear that your intention was not as I perceived it. Also, as I mentioned, it wasn't that I thought it would be tacky (although I didn't clarify it), I just didn't want others to think it was tacky and if others did not think it was tacky then I'd rather eat hot food than cold. It wasn't that my perception of tackiness has changed over the years, just that I was interested in going past my self-consciousness to the world of warm food.

Apology accepted and I'm sorry the whole thing made you sad too.

Let me add my voice to those who say you should not hesitate to bring your own drink to the food court if you so with. I believe it's obvious that Disney doesn't mind, so why should we?

In fact, I wouldn't even blink if you were to use a food court table to play bridge or do a crossword. At least, until the place gets busy and empty tables get rare.

And... by gum, I'm bringing my can of soda. So there!

Hey not only would I bring my own can of soda, I'd bring my cup and fill it with ice to pour the soda over and I'd probably snag a straw. Why?

Because they don't care. No one who's opinion matters is going to care. I've seen tons of people with outside food as well, and NO ONE CARES.

I might or might not bring in food..well actually I probably would not, but I would have no problem bringing my own cup and soda and getting some ice and eating my meal. I quit drinking a lot of soda but when I do I have only a few that I like so I'd totally understand that concept and wouldn't give you a second look.

In the past when my family and I went to eat at the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary or Gasparilla's Grill & Games at the Grand Floridian. My Mom would bring her own cans or bottles Sprite Zero to drink, because it's what she likes and both locations don't offer it on their drink machines when using the mugs or purchasing a drink in the paper cups. Now we also purchased actual meals there, however none of the Cast Members or other guests cared what my Mom was drinking.

I would not think twice about eating my food where it is hot, and the appropriate disposal areas are located. :confused3

Basically, I would think Disney would be more than happy for you to consume your food at the tables instead of your room. Keeps the mess down in their guest rooms! And the truth is, if you bring your own drink, they know you are not "taking" theirs. AND Disney has made their profit!

While at Pop Century, I have seen families sharing pizzas late at night from outside sources at the tables and nobody has said a word to them. From a house keeping standpoint, I would think that would be the prefered place to consume it.

Agree totally. To me, the food court is a public area, like picnic tables in a park, just indoors. Having a room with two beds is no fun when you have some time to kill, or if some family members are napping, etc. If you want to play cards, hang out and talk, then by all means, go to the food court. As a resort guest, you have as much right to that table as anyone.
