Can you bring a toaster into the room?

Ok, I don't stay at hotels much, so I'm not sure if this is a big no-no or what. We are staying at Pop Century. We have the dining plan, but are using it for lunches and dinners. We're not big breakfast people, we mainly eat toast, bagels, or cereal and fruit. I hate not only to waste the money, but also the time, getting such things at the counter service restaurant. Are you allowed to bring toasters into the room and use it? I'd unplug it when we're out of the room, of course, but not sure if I could get in trouble just for having it. Anyone ever done this?

I don’t see there being any problem. I would recommend unplugging it as you have mentioned so there is no fire scare. I would also make sure to use it on a fire proof surface. Just do not use it while in the bathtub. It might seem like a multi-tasking time saver but I wouldn’t recommend it. :rotfl:

Unless your room is set up with a kitchenette like the DVC villas or the All Stars Family Suites, I don't think you are supposed to cook in your room.

Mine was out in the open and nothing was ever said. But, you can always call before your trip and check. I don't see toaster as any differen than the coffee maker. Just unplug after using it.

When we went down for a cheerleading competiton. One family brought a microwave, toaster & coffee maker! Nothing was ever said to her. She was very careful. She said it really helped her out a lot! (she was going through hard times)

I agree, there is a toaster and microwave in the food court.

For the most part, if you are planning on taking a bus to the parks, you have to walk through the main building to get to the bus stop. If you are in the 90's section, it would be a little faster to go directly to the bus stop without going by the food court, but it's really not very far out of your way.
Otherwise, you basically have to walk by the food court to get to the bus stop. So going to the FC to toast bread or heat up food will probably not take any longer than doing it in your room - provided that you head to the bus right after eating.

In our case, we had DDP , so we didn't really bring our own food much, but a timeseaver I'll employ is to send DH ahead while I get ready. Some days I'm willing to throw my hair up in a pony tail, and others I actually want to style it. If I style my hair , DH has plenty of time to run up to the food court and bring breakfast back. Plus, the 'rush' in the FC is pretty predictable (most folks are aiming for 9am) and rather concentrated...if you can send someone ahead by just a few minutes you can beat the rush.

You would have to bring your own toaster. I know of people using hotplates in their rooms and my mother-in-law always uses her own coffee pot. Unplugging it as you mentioned is a very good idea.

However, you mentioned toast as one of the breakfast items you eat. Other choices were bagels, cereal and fruit. If you can get along with those three things and leave the toaster at home, I'd recommend that over the hassles of packing a toaster.

I recently stayed at POR, and brought both a toaster and kettle (POR provided minifridges free). After each use, I knocked the crumbs out of toaster into the garbage bucket, and put it up on shelf. And emptied the kettle and put up on shelf.

It was great to enjoy in my room, a breakfast of buttered toasted bagels and real tea, even instant porridge. Especially with my pjs still on! Hard to go to the food court with pjs on! And after a long day at the parks, sometimes a cup of tea was as good as a drink (Just some evenings! Other evenings the cold beer won!)

Yes, they'd probably rather guests didn't eat in the rooms, but it seems to me, as long as one is discrete and safe about it, there's no problems.
And at the general store at POR, they actually sold bagels, bread, pnut butter, cereal, etc. (do they do that at Pop Century Store?)

Yes, we sometimes eat the other items, but won't have a fridge in the room for milk for cereal and the fruit usually accompanies the other things. Also, we all pretty much will only eat bagels, pop tarts, etc. if they are toasted. I know many people eat them fresh, but we all prefer toasted. I don't think my kids have ever had a bagel that wasn't! LOL I'm not thrilled about lugging a toaster along, but if it will make for quick, cheap breakfasts, I'm willing.

Every trip to Disney, I have seen people checking in and checking out that have brought their own mini microwaves! (the tiny ones that you would find at Walmart or Target!) I have never asked, but it seems that it would be okay. I always bring a hot pot so that I can make tea. (I do not like to use the coffee pot...it is impossible to get the coffee taste out!) Mousekeeping has never said a thing or made an issue about it.
Just a quick note...the resorts where I saw this were the AKL, Yacht Club, GF and the Poly.

I am bringing a toaster and a small fridge. Our local Target had the small refrigerators (about half the size of those in a dorm) on sale for just $45.00. I immediately bought one to take with us during our stay at Pop. It's really smaller than the cooler we usually tag along. Since we drive, we won't have any problem at all bringing along a toaster and the fridge.
