Can you bring a portable fire pit?

I searched this before I posted this, and the last post re: this topic was in 2005. So....can you bring in one of those portable enclosed fire pits? We saw one today, it has a grill in it, a stack, meshed sides all the way around with a door, and it's on wheels, so you can easily move it to a safe location. Anyone have any ideas on the most recent rulings on these types of fire pits.

There has been quite a few posts about this subject and they say as long as the grill is covered they are ok. I think they mean a cover such as you state, a mesh cover.

All I've ever heard ( that I can remember ) is that you can but, it has to be fully enclosed, I think that it was aid that if there are fire restrictions while you are there that you can't even use those. Colson usually gives a good desciption on this question and since its Monday , if its a slow day at work he'll probably chime in.

As long as there is not a current fire ban going on you can have a portable fire pit. It must have mesh sides and a solid top as the one pictured. Just check with them at check-in if fires are okay.

That's the one we were looking at yesterday! The one thing I thought of though, is where do you get firewood? Obviously , not at the Fort! I guess I'll wait and see if Colson gets bored , and puts his 2 cents in!

I forgot that Colson had the great Vegas escape so, I'm not sure if he's back.... but he will be, unless he decides that his true calling is traving the world with the skydiving Elvis'.

You have to bring your own fire wood. Sometimes, in the fall/winter, fire wood can be purchased at a Walmart or grocery store (at least in our neck of the woods). I don't know if that is so in the Orlando area since we always bring our own.

Just a note about bringing your own firewood....

Unless you're from that area of Florida, do not bring in firewood from other states. This promotes the spread of plants/critters that are not native to Florida. If you go to a Florida State Park, you'll see signs that remind people of this. Never bring in firewood from another area.

You should be able to buy firewood from a nearby Walmart, gas station, grocery store, or state park.

Thanks Rhonda, I forgot that grocery stores/gas stations and WalMart will sell firewood. I wouldn't have brought the wood from home as we're from Canada, and I already know you can't cross the border with wood due to the Ash Borer. We lost 2 big trees at home last year due to it!

We usually just buy a case or two of firelogs at the local Walmart or Home Depot in Orlando. Easy to light, burns hot for an hour or two and then dies down (minimal mess too).

We don't cook on this fire obviously (can always go to C&D Campfire sing-aong for that).

We generally don't mess w/firewood at FW for reasons stated above.

There is some excellent firewood on the porch at Crocketts, you just have to wait for someone to get off the rocking chair first. The picnic tables over at the Back Yard BBQ burn well, too, but are hard to carry back to the campsite.
