Can you borrow a wheelchair?

Hi!

I had a surgery (laparoscopic) last week. So far, I have the ok from my doctor (that I'll see again friday) to go on our cruise on Nov. 30 ... I will be on vacation but will still be on recovery...

Although I am 99% sure I will be fine, I was wondering if it was possible to borrow a wheelchair if I ever need it?

The wheelchairs onboard are for medical emergency use only. You can't borrow one. If you feel you'll need one, you need to rent one ahead of time for delivery to the ship for use.

We rented two collapsible from Brevard Medical. $100 each for a 7 day cruise, delivery to stateroom before you arrive and drop-off in guest services prior to debarkation. Very smooth process. I didn't look at other companies since DCL recommended this one when I called them.

If you have a wheelchair you can take it on your flight for free. You just need to inform your airline in advance with size and weight information.

There are wheelchairs available onboard, intended for those who experience a medical emergency/injury during the cruise. I agree with others that if you think you may need a wheelchair, you should plan in advance and rent one. Brevard Medical delivers to the cruise ship, as does Special Needs at Sea, and I learned recently that Walker's also delivers to Port Canaveral.

Or adjust your plans to match your lower stamina as you recover. Depending on your port stops, it can be difficult to try to use a wheelchair for port excursions as many of the locations visited at port stops are not terribly accessible. Cobblestone streets and walkways could be more challenging to ride than walk slowly.

ok, good to know. I should be ok but I'm glad to know, just in case.

We're on deck 9 (aft), I don't think there will be that much walking to do since we'll spend most of our time in the adults sections and restaurants, we are not getting off the ship in Nassau and won't do any excursions on Castaway Cay (Serenity Bay) except relaxing on the beach.

I had to borrow a wheel chair while on the DREAM and let me warn you - they are VERY wide!! I found it difficult to navigate because they are definitely made for a large size person (and I am NOT small wear a size 16 or a 1X)
