.....I was solicited for money by a casino employee last night?!
So, I get off of work from the casino I work at and I decided to go to the casino next door and play $20 at a nickel machine. So, I sit down at an "I Dream of Jeanie" slot machine and begin my play. A few minutes later, a public areas employee comes by with her broom and dustpan and starts sweeping the carpet near my machine. She notices a small box on the floor below the machine next to mine. (I noticed the box too but figured it belonged to someone in the area.) She picked up the box and asked me if it was mine. I replied, "No, it' not mine." So, she takes the box and walks away. Now, in a casino, especially if you are an employee, if you find something, you turn it in to the security podium. So, anyway, a few minutes later, this woman returns with the box and says "Are you sure this isn't yours?" I replied, "Yes, I'm positive it's not." She says, "Well, would you mind opening it for me so I can see what's inside." For some stupid reason, I opened the box. Inside was a Lennox Crystal clock. So the woman says to me, "Would you like it?" I reply, "Well, I'll hold on to it and if anyone comes by, I'll give it to them." Now mind you, I had no intention of keeping this clock, I'm a casino employee and know the proper way to handle a lost item so I planned on dropping it off at security on my way out. Anywho, I told this woman I would hang on to the clock and if anyone came by, I'd give it to them. The woman then has the nerve to say....and I quote, "Well, why don't you give me two or three dollars for it?" Can you stand it!! This woman tried to sell me a clock that wasn't even hers in the first place!! In response I said, "No way! I'm not giving you money, you can go ahead and take it to security yourself." She then says to me, with attitude, "Well, give it back to me" and then snatched the clock out of my hand!
So, I semi blew it off and continued my play on the "I Dream of Jeanie" machine. Jeanie wasn't granting my wishes last night so when my money ran out, I got up to leave. I then battled with myself for a few minutes on whether or not I should report this situation or not. I ended up asking to speak to a public areas supervisor. Two showed up. I told them my story...they called over the employee and I then repeated the story to them in front of this woman. The woman, after hearing my story said to her supervisors, "Well he said he didn't want it." LOL! I guess she figured because I didn't take the clock that she did no wrong by asking me for money. Hopefully I did the right thing by reporting this. What do you think? Would you have reported her? I know patrons who solicit money from other patrons are kicked out of the building...there's no telling what would happen to an employee.
