Can you believe what happened?

at least she did not request that they hack the heck out of trees.ROFL
I see a few of us remember that thread :)

Scrufsmom,

You seem to have hit a nerve with some of our fellow DVC'ers. I didn't even know that we could make room requests until I got here and fortunately I have never been disappointed. Sometimes too much information is not a good thing.

Please take what you can from these posts but please don't take the personally. There are a lot of great people on these boards and each means well.:D

Other than the problem with the room, how was your trip and were your parents impressed with the Boardwalk??

Have a great Disney Day.

Three things:
1) The dirty room is a disappointment, sorry to hear about that...we appear to be hearing about that more and more. They need to work out their system.

2) As you now know requests are not guaranteed. We always request Boardwalk, have yet to get it. I don't blame you, we just have yet to be lucky, but 40 years to try. Another bit of info on requests, put them in order of importance, this is how they try to honor them.

3) When I first started reading the post, I was afraid your response would be defensive...I want to applaud you for realizing the mistake and further for fessing up to it in "public". More people like you and some of the other posts wouldn't have gotten out hand.

You should really learn the ins and outs to avoid future disappointment. I'm disappointed in BW management for bumping someone for your situation. I'd have loved to be hanging around hearing you bug them enough to get them to do this.

as long as i get into boardwalk I don't much care hwre they put me.

Don't worry about not knowing all the rules. We've been members for nearly four years and DH has yet to understand the rules. He just puts me in charge of the banking, borrowing and ressies and lets it go at that.

What did I miss about hacking out the trees?!!

I will never forget that one, nor the phone call from her when I was there and she told me about it. I was truly aghast!!!!

What did I miss about hacking out the trees?!!

Oh, I am not going back there again!!! I have nothing positive to say about this person, so, for once, I am going to be good.
Except, to say she tops the list for spratucks.

You didn't say what time you were checking in, but I'm sure you're aware that guaranteed check-in is not until 4:00 PM.

Sending you to a room that wasn't clean was definitely a mistake. That happened to us once, (but only once, in 10 years). However if it was before 4:00 PM they could also have just had you wait in the lobby, or stroll around the boardwalk, while they cleaned the room very quickly.

As to the boardwalk view, I wouldn't say for certain someone else got bumped. They've been renovating many BWV rooms and they may have found one that was done but just hadn't been returned to service yet. If it took 2-hours, then hopefully that was the answer and no one else was bumped.

For those who don't know about this one, one guest was demanding that Disney maintenance come over and trim several feet off the top of the trees that were outside her room because the tree tops were blocking her view.

'Nuff said about that. Make your own conclusions.

Am I remebering correctly, that one way to guarantee a Boarwalk view is to stay in a Grand Villa? I thought they all had that view, or did I just get lucky?

Correct me if I am wrong. I understood that room requests were done by the "room controller" and that the date of your reservation request did not matter. Somewhere on this board I think I read that room assignments are done relatively close (a day or 2) to your check-in day? Can somebody please clarify this for me. We did our ressies the week after Christmas for our trip in 2 weeks. Does this mean all of our requests are out the window? We ARE guaranteed a N/S room since DD is an asthmatic.

Room assignments at BWV are supposed to be done by date of reservation. They are only assigned a couple days before, but when they go down the list of people checking in and look at their requests, they are supposed to start with the oldest reservation.

The Boardwalk view is a sore subject with many members, it was discussed at the BWV annual meeting I attended in 12/2000. Their official answer was the above, that requests are filled by date of reservation. BW views are only 20% of the total BWV rooms and many more people request it, so there are bound to be disappointments.

One thing about it confuses me. When I did not get it when I checked in, they offered to check if one was available later in my stay, I would have to pay the change fee. A friend of mine was also given this offer for a reservation she made at 7 months. Both of us declined, but if we did take them up on this offer, it would bump someone else checking in on that day who may have had an older reservation. It's really the luck of the draw. I know someone on the AOL DVC Board who almost always gets his BW view request, while others never get it.

No.....I found out this first hand...My son has the same problem and we were (for the first time) given a smoking room during our trip in Oct...luckily we were able to change without a fee....

but

For our Christmas 2003 trip after speaking with MS I found out that I could request a NS room because it was a medical reason and that it would be honored....fortunately we found this out and won't have an issue in future visits....

The offered to spray the room in Oct...but that just wouldn't have worked for my sons problem...

So, Call back MS and find out what you need to do to add the Medical reason to your ressie...

All of the BWV Grand Villas overlook the Boardwalk area. So yes, reserving a GV is the only way to guarantee a view of the Boardwalk.

After several unsuccessful attempts at a BW view, I finally gave up and now book only standard view if it is available. And for the record, 2 of my attempts were 11 months out. I have read several times of cash ressies and other resort owners making BWV reservations at 7 months getting the coveted view, but I was never lucky enough. Now I stress over other disappointments of being a BWV owner, like the lack of parking spaces!

We got a smoking room when we checked into the BWV in May 2002, and we did have "non-smoking for medical reasons" on our reservation. We checked in at about 5 pm on my birthday, and it took about two hours to get it straightened out. We wound up in a "preferred view" (back of the Luna pool, 1st floor, handicapped room) studio for the night, and were able to move to our reserved 1 BR NON-smoking the next day for the week. Got most of our groceries ruined in the bargain. It wasn't fun, but I'm not bitter. I just don't plan to stay at BWV again. More rooms for you guys!

Wrong on both counts. Priority is by date of reservation though there are many variables. Like anything else, the squeaky wheel tends to get greased. Medical requests are high priority but are not guaranteed. The only guarantees are the room type and HC if it's reserved that way.

When we made the reservation I did specify that a N/S room would be needed since DD was asthmatic. MS said that would not be a problem. The other requests (floor/bldg) were also submitted but she could not guarantee those.

I have heard of a Park Hopper, but not a Room Hopper!!

Medical requests are filled first, so even though they are not actually guaranteed, they are as close to it as you can get. And like Dean said, a handicapped room requested as a handicapped room is guaranteed (at least that's what we've been told). Only the medical part gets priority; if you request non-smoking and then request a specific floor/building, the other requests get assined the regular way.

If they didn't list it on your reservation as a Medical Request, it's just a request for N/S, the same as anyone else's request. It should be listed right on your reservation confirmation as "Non-smoking for Medical Reasons" .

Here here. Nicely done, Scrufsmom.
Shame on you
Baloney, that's overstating. Shame on you for such a post.
