Can you believe this??

They should be suspended without pay, fired if possible. This is totally unacceptable. ANY adult who had a hand in this should be held responsible. Where were this kids parents? What was their reaction? I can't imagine my father, or DH allowing that coach to get out of there without approaching the coach and giving him a piece of his mind. As well as the other parents.....what's wrong with them that they didn't get up and say something? I would have stopped the ceremony right there!

I hate to say it, but the father may have agreed with the coach. DH's brothers were involved in sports and DH excelled in music and theatre and his DD made comments about DH being his daughter. Some dads, like some coaches, are utter jerks.

Hey everyone I found the email address of the superintentant of schools for Pleasantville. Maybe everyone should sent a email decrying the outrage against the humilation of a child and his family. Maybe if enough people raise this flag something would be done. I firmly believe that these men should not be coaching. I seen many so called volunteers who can not deal with their own lives let along help mold our childrens lives.

The email address I got off the school district website.

Superintendent of Schools: Andrew Carrington, Ed.D.
Email: carrington.andrew@pleasantville.k12.nj.us

Check out cnn.com. The coach has been fired from his coaching job, has to make a public apology, hold a second banquet to give a better award and attend sentitivity training. They're still trying to decide whether he keeps his teaching job or gets fired.

That makes me sick!

All I can say is they are lucky I was not there because I would never be able to let something like that go by without making a scene.

Whats worse is even though that coach got fired, it is nothing compared to the damage he did to that poor boy.

The man is not being fired, however he will receive a 5 day without pay suspension, no raise for next year, he may no longer coach in the P'ville school district, he must publicly apologize to the student, and he must undergo sensitivity training by a veteran teacher.

This child will have to live with this for the rest of his life...I can only hope that someway he can build up self esteem that is healthy. We have a 7 yo son that crys and whines all the time and we explain to him that it wont be accepted but if someone was to do that to my child in a teacher or coaches position Id give them something to whine about!!!!!

As an adult, whether that child was mine or not, I would have stood up and walked out of that banquet. How sad.

When I played minor hockey and highschool hockey we had awards just like this and the player was picked my the team and every year it was a different kid who would recieve it. It ranged from the kid who complained about not getting enough ice time to the kid who compalined about having the worst plus minus stats etc. This was our teams special award and was given out at our hockey banquet every year and included all the teams from our association not just our team. Same with our Highschool hockey team It was also given to the player that seemed to miss the most games due to injuries not deemed worthy of missing a game or practice. I guess it is what you are used to seeing I played a very high level of hockey and we had a very good team so when someone would whine or complain or ask to sit because he felt a little sick or whatever they got teased and jeered by the rest of us and by the coaching staff. I guess it doesn't seem to bother me because I have seen this all my life in sports etc and came to live with it and saw it as the joke it was always made out to be. Our parents were always in attendance at the awards ceremonies to and they all got a kick out of it. It was a great thing to get it because then you never got it again it was always given to a different player every year and was not taken to heart by anyone. I even recieved it one year when I broke my wrist and complained that I wanted to play and they wouldn't let me.

They should be fired -- they shouldn't be near kids. That makes me sick.
