Hey! I read someone on here saying that you can book a room at rack rate and then call and apply the AP discount when it comes out. Is this true?? I always had understood regular (not AP) discounts couldn't be applied rather you called and they re-booked under the new promo. Is AP different or was the person who was mentioning this just misinformed?

Well if the resort you have and the room type are available for an AP offer, you can apply the promo. I don't see a lot of difference in what you are saying and what the other person is saying.

You can do it if there are rooms available for the discount. I called reservations to try and get the AP discount applied to our Sept trip, but couldn't get it applied. The CM said that the rooms allocated for the discount were limited and there weren't any available for our resort during that period.

As the pp's said, if the resort/room type you have booked is available under the discount, you can have it applied to your existing reservation. The same goes for GP discounts, as long as what you have booked is available, your reservation can be modified to reflect the discount. Sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied. As far as cancelling and rebooking, the only time that has to be done is if you go from one reservation type to the other (RO to package and vice versa). Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.

Vicki...there is a lot of difference. I am asking if can apply a discount to any given reservation. The point of the question is just as you and others confirmed...it is dependent on availability. The reason I asked is b/c the thread I read implied you would be safe reserving a room and just applying the discount whenever you want. BUT that is far from the truth if you want a certain type of room that is high demand. Thus my reasoning for the question. I wanted to know if I need to be on top of AP discount releases so I can try and get the room I want or if I could just simply apply a code to a room I have "safely" reserved. That is a big big difference.

Thanks guys for confirming what I thought...that it is based on availability now simply a discount I can apply anytime and get. :) I will be proactive in finding out when AP discounts are released!
