I am going to use airmiles to book our Disney Hopper passes. I'm wondering if we will still, then, be able to add the DDP to our reservation if we're staying at a Disney Resort.
And you have to buy the tickets as a package in conjunction with your resort room.
If, in order to use the miles, you must purchase the tickets separately from the room, you may not add the dining plan to your reservation (unless you are staying at a DVC resort on DVC points - they have no ticket purchase requirement.)

You must purchase one day base tickets as part of your pkg. You can use the hopper tickets every day you are there, and save the one day tickets for an upgrade later.
I was in a similar situation last year because I wanted the DDP, but I had an Annual Pass. What I did was I purchased a 1 day base ticket. On the last day of your vacation you can go to the service desk of one of the four parks and they will refund you the money on your unused park pass to a credit card (as long as you never activated your park pass). The reason that you can not do this until your last day is that your park pass will be on the same card as your DDP. If they deactivate your park pass earlier, it will mess with your DDP portion of your card.
I made the mistake of not having a credit card with me when I went to get a refund, so they had to give me the money on a gift card instead.

What?!! I thought non-refundable meant just that, non-refundable. How did you get to do this? I have used ours for upgrading, but have never received a refund.
Did you just ask for a refund? I have never heard of this being done before.

When I went to the desk at the MK early in my stay I asked them about my options regarding using my pass towards another AP. They actually suggested that it would be easier if they just refunded my unactivated 1 day base ticket. They told me to come back on the last day of my stay. When I returned several days later they gave me my refund in the form of a gift card because I did not have my credit card with me.
Okay, that's a little different from the typical situation. jhryb apparently possessed an active AP at the time plus wanted to apply the one-day pass to the next AP (likely, but not absolutely, a renewal).
I absolutely believe that she/he was able to get a credit (gift card 'refund') for the unused single-day pass - but again, I warn that this would likely NOT be the experience of most Guests; and so, anybody attempting it should be prepared NOT to be angry or upset if their experience differs.
