I want to kidnap my mom for a movie and am trying to decide what movie to rent.

Something light-hearted would be best, I think. Or a good action that doesn't involve guns/killing/etc. No sad points, preferably.

Any suggestions?

We did Lion King 1 1/2 2 weeks ago and that was good.

Second Hand Lion.....I am bringing it to DS, who is in rehab for her to use for the weekend! A great movie and one that most people missed. Enjoy.

Hi Rajah, I don't have a specific suggestion,( I can hardley ever get DH out for a movie) but you can go to
www.screenit.com and they have pretty thorough descriptions of all movies.
I can tell you this time of year I always think of one of my favorites which is Where the Boys Are...spring break you know!:p
I hope you have a nice night whatever you rent.
My kids want me to rent School of Rock.....

How about a good old movie, one of the classics? For instance, "My Man Godfrey" is a favorite, or perhaps "The Thin Man" or "After the Thin Man" (mysteries, with minimal violence, especially compared to todays standards).

I was going to suggest the same thing! Just a nice, old-fashioned feel-good movie.

We just watched The Fighting Temptations and really liked it. Lets see, over the last few months we have rented:

Good Boy - this was good - my kids especially enjoyed it
Radio - Eh. Sort of sad.
Spy Kids 3D - the worst movie ever made, OMG I have a headache thinking of it!!
Runaway Jury - I liked this, it was suspensful, but not really my "type" of movie
Under the Tuscan Sun - total chick flick, DH would have rather cut off his arm than watch this movie, but I loved, loved, loved it. If you like amazing cinematography and a light sort of quirky storyline, you'll like this one.

And of course we've seen Lion King 1 1/2 about a zillion times, but you said you already saw that one. Of the above, I'd pick The Fighting Temptations for the most all around "feel good" type of theme.

Bend it Like Beckham
Monsoon Wedding
another vote for Under the Tuscan Sun and Good Boy

This maybe silly, but DD and my dad watched "Sound Of Music" last night. It's been a while and they really enjoyed it. :)

Another vote for Secondhand Lions.

We also REALLY enjoyed Whale Rider.

More votes for Under the Tuscan Sun and Secondhand Lions!

My DH DID watch Under the Tuscan Sun with me... not his usual cup of tea... although close to the end he did say - "shouldn't this be over by now??"

Whatever you choose - just have an enjoyable - peaceful time together!

Another vote for Secondhand Lions and The Fighting Temptations. :)

Second Hand Lions or POTC. I know POTC doesn't sound like it fits the bill, but it does.

I'm still a big Seabiscuit advocate. I only cried because I was happy. Great feel good movie.

This maybe silly, but DD and my dad watched "Sound Of Music" last night.

And don't worry, this is no where NEAR silly!! ;) I'm completely, hopelessly obsessed with TSOM. It's my favorite movie of all time. :) Hooray!!! :) :)

"In Search of Bobby Fischer(sp?)" My FAVORITE movie of all time. It's about a little boy who is extremely gifted with the ability to play chess (not my cup of tea) and the battle his father goes through while deciding if he's going to let his son be a regular little boy or push him into a life of chess tournaments/practices.

The little boy who plays the son is so endearing. Ben Kingsley is in it and the father and mother are also well known actors, but I can't remember their names

It is based on a true story.

Lori P. :)

We just saw "Catch Me if You Can" with Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. It was a great movie!

Seabiscuit is a wonderful movie. I never tire of watching it. Nothing better than a true story about an underdog coming back to whoop up on the competition!!!

I was going to say The Princess Bride or Legend (which stars Mia Sarah from Ferris Buelar's Day Off and a very young, very HOT HOT HOT Tom Cruise), both romantic feel good films, with lighthearted moments. :)

Pretty Woman and What Dreams May Come would also be on my list.

Hope this helps.

another vote for under the tuscan sun...
also pretty woman and dirty dancing are aloways great "feel good movies"

We just rented School of Rock and loved it!!! It was even more interesting that it was filmed at a historical theatre a mile from my house!!!

I'd skip Seabiscuit if you are looking for something light. There
are parts that are very dark and sad that thread through the
entire movie. It is a great film, just NOT light.

I'm thinking Fast Times at Ridgemont High or Ferris Bueller's
Day Off. Whale Rider isn't light but the subject matter shouldn't
be too stimulating and it's interesting to see the Maori cultural
stuff.
