I figure there must be some people who have Texan experiences that might be able to help me out so bring on the advice : ) We are spending a week in Texas March 27th-April 4th for our Spring Break and would like some feedback. I know there will be some college spring breakers, but I have heard most people will have it before then.

Am for sure going to visit San Antonio, Austin briefly and then not sure possibly Corpus Christi. I have a 7 year old in tow who basically wants to swim (at a heated pool I'm guessing for that time of year) and see kid friendly stuff and my hubby, photographer extradionaire who wants to see it all. He is not the sit down and relax kind of guy. He wants to be kept busy seeing and doing everything except art museums! (not his thing)

Below is my tentative plan so far nothing is booked except the flight to and from...

Sat March 27th arrive Austin 2:15pm, drive and spend night in San Antonio, hopefully with enough time to walk the Riverwalk at night and getting dinner there, thinking of staying downtown so we can walk to Riverwalk, etc.

Sun March 28th Alamo, see several Missions, a Cathedral, Riverwalk ride, check out the Market Square where it is like Mexico, night in San Antonio again

Mon March 29th go to Hill Country, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area first and then to Exotic Resort Zoo in Johnson City, eat in Fredericksburg? Possibly at Auslander, night in San Antonio, possibly move to the outskirts of San Antonio to where I've heard they have good pools but maybe stay put in downtown San Antonio

Tues March 30th go to Witte Museum, Buckhorn Saloon, walk around the King William Historic District, eat a meal at La Villita National Historic District night again in San Antonio somewhere

Wed March 31st considering Natural bridges or if warm enough tube the river, but it looks like there aren't any rentals that time of the year not sure if there is a better choice for today, my hubby doesn't want to do Six Flags, eat at Magic Time Machine restaurant ( I went there as a kid and still remember it so want to check it out again! Any tables I should request?), night in San Antonio

Thur April 1 see Seaworld open 10-6pm, and then drive to Corpus Christi, should be 2 hours 11 without traffic, spend night in Corpus

Fri April 2 USS Lexington 9-5pm, see town of Rockport, see the Fulton mansion in Rockport, Corpus Christi for the day and night in Corpus Christi Pier 99 Restaurant, considering Texas Aquarium but since we just did Seaworld thinking it is not necessary and we have seen lots of aquariums recently, want to drive on the beach if we can or see something of North Padre Island, any advice on that?, night in Corpus again

Sat April 3rd wake up early and drive from Corpus Christi to Austin, see capital building 9:30-3:30, then see Bob Bullock museum open 9-6 and bats at night if they are out, be at Congress bridge before dusk, where is a cool place to eat with kids or hear live music?

Sunday April 4th not sure what else to do today, eat at Whole Foods on the roof with play area, and pick up food for the plane, leave Austin 3:00pm

I don't really want to do the drive thru animal park close to Natural bridges because I will be in a car rental, but if it's worthwhile we might reconsider. I figure the Exotic zoo we would see animals and let them drive us around. Has anyone done both and compare? Which one did you like better and why?

We had considered going to Houston and not Corpus, but not sure it is worth it. We've seen NASA in Florida, is the Houston one much different? Which is better? I did like the idea of the children's museum in Houston, it looked incredible.

I am not sure what to expect with Corpus over that time. If it is crazy then I wouldn't want to go maybe just see it as a day trip from San Antonio, but the hotels seem very available so it can't be too busy.

If you were going to do just one Hill Country town which one? Any good place to see wildflowers?

Which caverns are worth seeing?

Any thoughts????

Thanks,
Jenn

I'm not familiar enough with Austin or San Antonio, so I can't really help you there.

Corpus shouldn't be busy that time of year. Most (if not all) Texas spring breaks are in mid-March and will be over by the time you get there. I've been to the Lexington and it's a lot of fun! I don't know if you were going to try to swim in the ocean, but I highly doubt it'll be warm enough during the time you'll be there.

Sounds like it'll be a fun trip! :)

I wish I would have seen your post sooner. I grew up around Corpus and could have offered some other suggestions. how was y'alls trip?
