i am not staying onsite, but was wondering if i'm allowed to take my ds to see herbie/love bug at All stars movie resort. we're not going to 'use' the facilities, just tske his pic with herbie. is this allowed? i know its a bit cheeky

It's not cheeky at all. At the security gate, just tell them what you want to do. The worst they can say is no and turn you away, which I highly doubt they would. They will write down your Drivers license number and the license plate of the vehicle you are driving. It is possible that they would give you a 3 hour pass for parking as well. While you're there, eat at the food court. The turkey dinner is yummy, so is the meatball sandwich.

i didn't realise we could eat there. i assumed it was for resort guests only. we would use one of the buses to go down as we are not driving. maybe its something we could do after one of the parks before going to down town disney. i pressume the buses go to DTD from here

You can take a bus from any theme park to almost any Disney resort. The exceptions are the MK resorts of Poly, Contemporary and Grand Floridan. For these you use the monorail for the MK and Epcot. The other exceptions are the Epcot resorts of Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, and Swan/Dolphin. To get to these from Epcot or the Disney Studios you can walk or boat. Just take the bus to the All Stars Movie resort and take your pictures, look around, etc. From the same bus stop you can take a bus to any theme park or Downtown Disney.
Anyone with a valid WDW theme park ticket can use all the transportation available inside WDW.

Our last visit we stayed at the ASMo and decided to take a day and just drive around looking at the other resorts. We were actully encouraged by the security guard at most resorts to park and get out and walk around (our plan was to just drive and look). I guess they want you to do exactly what we did and see another place that you'd want to stay in for your next trip. It was fun.

We saw Herbie a few times on MGM's Backlot Tour a few weeks ago. It sounds like they change props a lot, so I don't know if Herbie will still be there. They even had the Herbie that was split in half for the movie.

Keep a lookout for Herbie if you do Backlot Tours at MGM!

this is great. i didn't think they'd be very happy with unofficial guests walking around the resort. i won't feel like i'm sneaking about where i shouldn't now

Go see the new stunt show at MGM too! Herbie makes an appearance in the show! :)

Back in the day :-)

We used to stay at the Poly.
There weren't very many other resorts... the Contemporary, the Golf Resort (now "Shades of Green") and the hotels at WDW Village (now DTD).

Later trips to WDW would reveal the building and opening of newer resorts.
We never rent a car at WDW, so we'd just hop on a bus going to each new resort from MK or Epcot and "see the layout" of each one as it opened.

We saw Carribean Beach Resort grow larger each visit.

Saw Swan and Dolphin's huge building-topping icons just sitting on the ground as the bus drove by and driver commented on them.

Watched close-up as the Yacht and Beach Club took shape.

Viewed the Boardwalk when it was just a "sign on a fence" and some scaffolding with a wooden cut-out attached (to check the sight-lines).

Marveled at the red roof lines of the Grand Floridian (and how the monorail was going to have a "new stop" added.)

Rode rented bikes from Ft. Wilderness down the path the ended at the new construction site of the gigantic Wilderness Lodge.

Dixie Landings/Port Orleans (love the boats to/from DTD.)

Looked at Coronado Springs (pool area is pretty impressive).

Animal Kingdom Lodge was a complete surprise when finished because of its "hidden" location.

And during all these times (and we stayed at various newer resorts over time) we would have meals at the various new resorts' dining rooms.

But, we never considered it "wrong" or "odd" to visit other resorts.
We, to this day, still eat at several resorts and visit favorite spots at virtually all of them each time we make a WDW trip.
Disney seems happy to allow guests to take a look (and a "taste) at (possible) future accommodations.

Its a very enjoyable WDW experience, even without using a car... or a park ticket.

They really don't have a problem with other guests looking at the hotels. The All Stars resorts are a perfect place to take some great pictures! Many visitors to WDW will stop by lots of other resorts to take a look, eat, shop, etc. Have fun! :Pinkbounc
