Can we use a Table Service meal on the Basic dining plan for a Counter Service meal?
I did book a late dinner at Chef De France for the day we arrive but I think we may be too tired to wait for dinner at 8pm being up at 4am that day...lol

No you can not trade a TS for a CS. They did let you do this once before when they over sold the DDP and offered extra desserts and pin and lanyards but other wise unless they state that again no you can't. Sorry. It is just like they will not let you buy a 10 day basic ticket for your 5 day trip and let you use the extra tickets to park hop. :confused3

That was not the case for my trip. The CM told me I could use one TS credit for a CS credit and we did it many times.

That would be comparable if they were talking about trading a CS for a TS, but the other way around it's no skin off Disney's nose. If anything, it's the guest who loses money on this trade.

I can only suggest asking, since there technically wouldn't be anything wrong with the switch. The only thing that might be wrong is if the CS places don't have their computers set up to take TS credit.

Hopefully someone else will come along with some more info cause as far as I have been told that was not allowed at all. Only when they let you do it during that one season was it allowed. :confused3

The rules (which I read a couple of times, but not lately) say 'yes' you can trade down. (again.. net gain for Disney... why wouldn't they?) And again as I have read, you can trade a CS meal down to a snack.

But have you considered upgrading on of your other meals instead? You could do a 2 credit meal (dinner show or a signature restaurant) for one of the other nights with the credits you would save that night? Just my 2 cents. Have fun either way!

So if you can use a TS for a CS why did they bother offering extra desserts and pin & lanyards that one year for you to do so? Did they really over book that year by that much?

I think you're talking about free dining.

During free dining they let you switch a TS credit for a CS credit and two snacks or a pin/lanyard set. It was just an extra perk and because the TS restaurants got fairly full.

I was at AS Sports this past Dec. I used my last CS just a few hours before the DME bus arrived. There was a family checking out in front of me that got into a rather nasty argument with the cashier and a manager had to be called. They apparently had a TS left over and wanted to use it on their last day. They were not allowed to and wound up paying out of pocket (apparently losing the TS credits). Both the cashier and the manager told them that their cash registers were not set up to take TS meal credits.

Now, back in Dec an appetizer was included with the TS credits, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not, but I do know that family was very angry that they were losing TS credits, but had to pay OOP for their CS meal.

The only time I've heard them letting you use CS for TS "for sure" has been during free dining. IIRC, they released a statement a month or two before free dining saying that you could trade them. Personally, during free dining is the only time I'd want to use TS for CS. OP, in your situation I'd just use the TS credit a different day (maybe use it for a TS character breakfast or lunch), and just pay OOP for that one CS meal at the end of the trip.

Before I would use a TS credit for CS perhaps consider booking another TS meal maybe a breakfast or something you would otherwise no do and pay out of pocket for the CS. On the other hand-
You may be surprised that you are looking forward to a relaxing meal when you arive at WDW.. I can think of nothing better than eating a good meal and watching Illuminations- a wonderful start to your vacation.

Either way have a fun time.

We just did this in October at AS Music. 1 TS left on our last morning and I got a PB&J meal to go for the airport.
