Can we upgrade onsite from moderate to deluxe?

Hi everyone,

We're a family of four (2 adults, a 8 year old girl and a 16-month old boy) and we live in The Netherlands. We are going to stay in the CBR and POR in the period May 7-May 18 and we're looking forward to it. I've been reading this discussion board with great interest and I've learned a great deal from all of you. But I also have one question, is it possible to change our reservation from a moderate resort to a deluxe resort?

We have made our reservation through a Dutch travel agent and we are paying $ 185 a night for our room (both in CBR and POR). If we want to move to for example the Poly, what would that cost us?

I hope you can help me with this because after all I've read about the deluxe resorts, I really want to stay in one. We've visited Disneyland Paris 12 times now and we usually stay in the Disneyland Hotel, also a deluxe hotel and we love it there!

If you're paying $185 for your hotel rooms then you are paying top dollar. I'm not sure that Disney will move you once you're at the resort. How about checking with your travel agent prior to coming here to the US? They made be able to get you a much better deal now that some specials have come out. You could always try booking Disney on your own and may be able to come up with something much better. You should be able to at least get into the Dolphin or the Swan for some where around that rate.

It would be easier to change ahead of time. Your travel agent should be able to make the change for you, or if you can get your money back, you may want to cancel your moderate reservation, and make the reservation yourself for the deluxe.
Can I ask when your trip is? $185 a night for a moderate is pretty high...

Gee, it says right in the first post that they are staying May 7 to May 18... :cool1:

Silly question: Are you paying $185 in US dollars? That just seems really high for a moderate.

I'd go ahead and change the ressies before you travel. As noted previously, you're paying a pretty steep rate for a moderate. Wouldn't take too many more Euros to stay at Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge. heck if you're making the trip all the way from Europe, I'd go ahead and do it.

Good luck and hope you enjoy your stay !!!

Welcome to the Dis Debbel. :wave2: You should be able to modify your reservations, check with your TA. You might find some room rate info at allearsnet.com

Either you are being overcharged or else (and I hope it's this!) the 185 dollars per night inludes something else besides the basic accommodation. If 185 per night is *just* for the resort then I think you should seriously consider booking the holiday yourself either by calling Disney in the U.S. and making a reservation or, better still (in my humble and newbie opinion!!) by going through a reputable Disney *specialist* like Small World Vacations or Dreams Unlimited. Those companies will do the booking for you and iron out any problems, give you great advice on all things Disney, look for any possible discounts, book your priority seatings (meal 'reservations') etc. etc. You could then book the flights online yourself too.

Sorry I don't mean to overwhelm you. I am new to WDW too (or at least I will be when I get there in June :)) but I can't stand by and see a fellow European paying way above the odds. The rate Disney charges for the time you are going is 149 per night plus tax at 11.5% which works out as 166 per night. So over 11 nights you are being overchanged by 209 US dollars. Are you booking your flights through them too... what is the mark up on the flights?

I'm in Europe too - Ireland, as you can tell from my username and believe me, the mark up many (not all) travel agents here take is just immoral.

I don't know how much the Poly will cost you but as the previous poster recommended, check out www.allearsnet.com - go to Accommodations and all the info will be there for all the Disney resorts. It's a lot more expensive than a moderate but if you can afford it and would love it, then why not?!! :)

If your travel agent "increases" the Poly price at the same rate they have "increased" the moderates (i.e. about 12%) then you'll be wasting a lot of money sticking with that agent. Unless of course, as I said, you have a special arrangment with extras inluded!

Good luck to you. Hope it all works out. Have fun browsing through all the info on the resorts :)

This post is kind of off subject but I have to say hello to Micca! We are neighbors. I also live in Wichita, Kansas.! It really is a small world after all! :rotfl:

Thanks everyone for you quick replies!!! I now understand that we have been "ripped off" by our travel agent. But these are normal prices here in The Netherlands for the WDW resorts, a room in the GF lagoon view would cost us $ 581! And because we have booked our rental car with the same travel agent we will still have the airline ticket for a cheaper rate, so we do not have to include the accomodation.

But I'm sure we will be back in the future and I will remember this and surely will book our next vacation in a different way.

However, I will call our travel agent and see what I can do, I wonder if I can change anything?? But we won't let this affect our vacation in anyway, because I have read some great reviews about the POR resort so I don't think I have to worry about that! Thanks again!!!! :wave2:

Many times in foreign countries Travel Agents will work up a package that includes the room and air fare. While your room might be priced higher than booking it yourself with Disney, if you are getting discounted air fare with it, then you have to look at the total package.

POR is a great resort with really nice food areas. You will like the resort alot.

I would contact your travel agent, tell him or her you check prices for rooms on the Disney website and was wondering why your rate is more than what Disney has listed on the website for your dates.

If you like the Polynesian, I would book a meal at either O'Hanas or Kona Cafe and have a look around the resort.

Enjoy your trip. :)

Could you cancel the accomodation part with your travel agent without any penalties?
