Can we set up a separate board for...

I don't care about the concept, I just absolutely can not stand the phrase "Budget Buster." Makes my skin crawl.

My least favorite budget board threads are the ones that will pop up here soon - I don't CARE about Black Friday. I don't CARE about Yankee Candle sales. Not interested in CVS and I really don't care what a Target in Alabama is putting on sale right now. And I could care less what other people buy their kids for Christmas.

But apparently other people like those threads, so in a few months I'll spend a lot less time on this part of the board and I'll swing back in January.

I agree, if you do not like the posts, don't open them.

I believe there are alot of people that maybe do not have access to good advice when a crisis occurs. So they may post on the boards their "issue" in the hopes for a little kindness, understanding and perhaps some good advice that they would not have thought of.

Not everyone has the ability to come to the correct conclusion or solve a problem immediately when it happens. Sometimes people panic and need a friend. I would suggest you soften your heart a little to people who might need a friend instead of looking at them like a complete annoyance to you because they defile the budget board with their petty problems. Think how you might feel if a tragedy fell on you. Friends are nice to have in a tragedy.

Afterall, part of the feeling on the Dis is a feeling of comraderie and friendship....not hate and anger. :grouphug: It's okay to support people you don't know and lend a hand to those in need. They could be your next door neighbor for all you know. :littleangel:

This board is not the only place on the internet that gets posts that I am not personally interested in. I do what others suggest I just dont open the thread or on boards that dont have previews (which I love btw) if it is annoying to me I just move on. There is not always a need for censorship. I believe that people have the ability to self censor. Change the channel, put down the book, block the station, move on.

Actually I'd like to think I do care. I look at it this way, some times life is rough and when your trying to do the right thing and it seems like it's raining lemons on you, all you need is a friendly voice to hold on.

I don't have a problem with people using me as a friendly voice. There is strength in numbers.

Next, you never know when some one who is in the exact same posititon as you are will read your post and then have a solution that you never thought of. Information is power.

Lastly, these things usually go in cycles, some times we get a lot of them and some times it's more about what deals are out there. There are days I have to tune out the dis and that's cool. Just take a break or cruise another forum.

I totally agree.

I have to agree with the OP on this one. The Budget board used to be my favorite board but now I find myself spending little time here. Some days most of the posts seem to be about people's 'budget busters' or depressing financial woes. It used to be the community baord was the place where all that depressing stuff got posted! I've taken to the Cruise Board lately. Very little complaining on that board! All that said I have used the budget board for advice on financial matters, I like that the information is out there and people are so helpful, I just miss the old more upbeat feel of the Budget Board.

I thankfully am in a situation where I don't have a lot of real "budget busters". I think I may have used the term once and it didn't really apply. However, there were times in my past when I couldn't pay attention.

This is actually my favorite part of the disboard. Here is where you learn about the real people that make up DisBoards. I don't have a lot to contribute on some days because I find that kids are a big part of this board and I don't have any.:worship: Yesterday, I was able to contribute at least a few comments that may be helpful to some people.

Those things were deemed budget busters. Where else would someone on a budget post to get advice about something that was unexpected or unplanned?

As someone that has belonged to this board for about 5 years I consider alot of people my long distance friends and when you need help with something, there is always someone that can answer that question that you have, lend emotional support for something they have experienced that you are now going through etc. I agree with the above posters, you don't have to read the posts that have no interest to you and then they won't bother you :rotfl2:

I agree. I really don't have any real friends, just acquaintances and co-workers. I always think of everyone on the budget board my friends. And since I have been coming on budget for so many years, it is hard to go elsewhere.

So anyway, my car needs brakes, I haven't had a raise in over 3 years, I hate my job, my vet bills are outrageous. So what do you suggest I should do, go to Disney World!!!!!!

You're complaining, about people complaining about things that mess with their budget, on the budget board. Classic.

I agree with OP, this forum is a bit wide on topic and could use some subforums.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade and I'm always happy to lend a helping hand, but this board tends to have more Off Topic posts than the majority of other boards I've visited. So yeah, I'll twist my little mustache and say we need a little more order ;)

This is however, a good board to visit and I enjoy it.

I agree with this one! It is the budget board, and so it is appropriate :rotfl:

Except we can't even agree that the posts OP mentioned ARE off topic. So someone will always be unhappy. Plus, boards need sponsors and I'm not ponying up the money for that. So just skip what you don't like.

I love the Budget Board. I feel like the people on this board are friends. I can ask questions and not be made fun of. The Dis'ers on this board are trying to get the most from their money; just like I am.

I hate the cruise board, they are snobs (ok, not everyone but quite a few). I don't think some of them know what a budget trip is. I've been lucky enough to go on two cruises but only because we had category 12 rooms and no shore excursions. When I've asked for advice there, I've been ridiculed - trying to plan a budget cruise.

I'm glad to have the budget board, it is the one I visit most frequently. I don't mind any of the threads. If something doesn't interest me, I don't click on it.

To each their own.

Can we setup a seperate forum for those that are complaining about those that are complaining? :confused3

complaining about 'budget busters'? Frankly, I am tired of hearing everyone fuss about life's 'little troubles'. We all have financial issues and events but is the Disboard the place to come vent about them?

Do you CARE that we have to take a $250k mortgage to pay off his ex-wife? Or that we have to help DS buy a car or what medical bills we may have, etc?

I don't mean to sound heartless but I don't think this is the forum for whining about our personal woes. I thought it was to share budgeting tips and ways to get to Disneyworld for less money.

JMTCW--which, with inflation--is worth about 1.25 cents now!

Why don't you just skip the threads with the words "Budget Buster" in the titles? Then you're happy because you don't have to read them and those of us who do care to read are happy too.

:lmao: seriously for a LOT of us in this day and age the littlest thing in the past can now be a BIG budget buster. I have learned from so many other posters a LOT over the years, hopefully I pass along some knowledge too a long the way, a compassionate ear is always a good thing to have and it can be priceless:thumbsup2

This is so very true. I have found fixes for things that I worried about. For example, finding out that one brand of toilet paper is heck on the toilet and the reason the toilet does not always flush right could be the toilet paper. Due to this I have since changed TP and no problems with having to plunge all the time.

Some people need someone that they can lean on and if the post says "Budget Buster" and you don't want to read it than skip it.

OT: But I'd sure like to know that TP brand!!....
mine are ALWAYS clogging up and I swear it must be the brand we use as they are new toilets/but low-energy/water saver toilets. I am thinking it might be time to "step away from the Charmin" :rotfl: now back to our regularly scheduled program.... I just found the budget board and am enjoying the array of topics discussed/tidbits gleaned from the many different discussions! If something doesn't interest me, I chose not to continue reading. So far this board is very helpful, entertaining and supportive :goodvibes
