Went clothes shopping with DD last night. Man, it's getting tough to find decent clothes for teenagers. She needed a casual skirt. So we found TONS of them - all just barely covering the top of the thigh.

She finally chose one that is actually a "skort". It's really cute, but boy, I do hope I don't get a call from the school saying it's too short.

They're ALL short!

I am having a hard time with my 6 year old too! She really wants those shorts where you can read a saying on their rear end, and I keep telling her that her butt is too small to read anything on and I do not want ANYONE reading her behind!

Pretty scary when you can't even dress a 6 year old decently - isn't it?

Yeah, teens should wear clothes. Unless showering, that would be pretty silly to wear clothes in the shower.

Seriously though, decency seems to be fading quickly.

I have seen some nice things for young girls in places like Target, Filenes, Macys etc.

A lot of it is Trashy looking, but there are things that are not.

I would never want a little girl having a saying on her behind. With all the perverts out there, why encourage them.

Ick.

Where did you go shopping?

Gap has a TON of skirts out now that are long - to the knee or longer...hot style this summer I guess. (I know the Gap can be pricey at times...but what's a few more bucks to cover a few more inches - you know?)

I saw a teen the other day in a pair of sweat pants that had two handprints on the rear:eek:

grinningghost--does your DD still wear kids clothing or is she in junior sizing? I do not have a daughter but notice that the Lands End and LL Bean catalogs seem to have more conservative clothing.

I'm glad I have boys. :p

I know what you mean though. I look around the kid's shops sometimes and it seems like everything is either Jr. Princess or Jr. Hooker and very little in between.

After crawling the mall for 2 hours, we ended up at Weathervane. DD is actually larger than me. She's in a size 9. Which she thinks is "fat". She looks much better than me - at least she has a body.;) I would trade her any day.;)

I was going to say the same thing about Gap! Cute stuff there this year. :)

I'm surprised you couldn't find anything! Here we have 2 basic styles, super-short or to the knee/a little longer.

The trends this summer seem to go either way. A LOT of stores have just started putting out a lot of really pretty, longer skirts. Most of them are in nice pastel colors, prints and solids. Someone suggested GAP. Also, if you have a Rampage or American Eagle, give them a shot. Stay away from stores like Hollister and A&F and stick with the girly stores...they should have a bigger selection of skirts that actually cover something!

I was in AE last week with my 15yo niece. She tried a skirt on and then told me that she didn't think she'd be able to sit down with it on! It was THAT short. Everything I saw was super short. Good to hear that GAP is better.

DD tried on a pair of those short shorts with words on the butt. They said "hoops" or something similar referring to basketball--she likes anything to do with basketball no matter how tacky:eek: . If they had fit, I told her they'd become shorts for bed but she wasn't wearing them out of this house.

Yeah - American Eagle's stuff can run rather small/short too...

hmmm...I'm kinda surprised about the AE thing....I could've sworn they had some longer skirts? Maybe I'm thinking of another store...

Saw some shorts the other day that had "JUICY" written on the behind....

Who wants a juicy behind??? EWWWWWWwwwww

The other day at Emilys play there was a girl who was wearing a skirt that was so unbelievably small that I could not stop staring. She was standing in the row of seats a few down from us and talking and bouncing around. Her skirt was WELL below her hip bones and even though she was slender, she had a pot belly kind of being squished over the top (it had to be tight to stay up) then the skirt was only about 12 inches long and if she leaned the wrong way (or maybe the right way depending on who was looking) you could see right up her skirt...

My sister who is slightly outspoken (understatment) said... "Oh my gosh, if she farts youll see her @ss....." I know she said it loud enough for the girl to hear but I was sliding under my seat so no one would see me and missed if the girl looked over at us!

omg that's too funny.

I have a mental image of this girl with her skirt blowing up in the rear...heheh

I like your sister...my kinda gal...totally something me and my friends would say too.

As a HS teacher, this is an ongoing battle. I think the one thing I would like to say to parents out there is to make sure that their daughters have on appropriate undergarments. Sometimes the skirts are "okay" but are so thin that you can tell what their underwear choice for the day is. Too much of the time the choice has been to wear none. I can't understand why these girls want to sit on plastic seats with very little between them and the seat! It can't be hygenic -

The clothing line was Juicy Couture. They make those velour jumpsuits that Jennifer Aniston and a whole bunch of stars in Hollywood wear, very popular over here on the Island.

I have sweapants that say "JUICY" on the butt, and I swear I the thought of it being sexual never crossed my mind until I moved to Boston. Girls around there don't wear Juicy Couture that much and gave me looks, but at home no one looks twice at me when I wear them.

But I agree about the lengths of skirts this season. I'm 19 and not old-fashioned, but they're not accomadting for my body. I have a bubble butt, and those things don't even begin to cover it! None of the skirts this season compliment my body type.

What's worse is that most of them are ruffled...have you seen a short, ruffled skirt on a girl with a huge butt? I'll do you all a favor and not wear them :)

Dress code in my DD's middle school is that shorts have to be 4 inches long (and no bike shorts allowed), and skirts have to be fingertip length. I have yet to find any shorts that meet the criteria. She's been wearing lots of capris to school.
