Hope this is the right place to post this and appologies and advance for my cluelessness!

Dbf and I are are travelling with Dbf's family in December. He and I will be splitting our stay having rented points here on the Dis for BCV and doing hotel stays either side. His family were planning on 2 rooms at POR, but we just found out yesterday that they could use RCI for DVC or Bonnet Creek.

Dbf had a look this morning, but could only see studios and 1 bedrooms at DVC resorts. They need a 2 bedroom so the question is do they have any chance of a 2 bedroom coming up for our dates - 4th-18th Dec? I've searched around and apparently "trade power" has something to do with it?! I'm not sure I really understand what that is. They're on weeks not points, I'm told, if that makes a difference.

If they can't get DVC they'll likely go with Bonnet Creek. We just want to know whether to go ahead with that now or not.

Thanks for any help! :flower3:

I can give you my experience with my inlaws RCI points that we are using for our Dec trip at DVC. I started watching at the beginning of February for a 2 bedroom for Dec 4-11 at any DVC location. There was nothing at all for DVC in any size room for checkin that weekend (anytime Dec3-6) until last week. A 2 bedroom at OKW became available for Dec 3-10 and we grabbed it right away. There was a Saratoga one bedroom that came availale the same day but that went quickly, too.

There have been two bedrooms for the week after that I've seen but only the one at OKW for the first week in Dec. I've been checking at least daily and in most cases several times each day. In other words, you may have a chance for the second week but I've seen nothing for Dec 4-12 in any size DVC.

I don't know about weeks to exchange because my inlaws have points. The points for OKW for the week were 69,500. Very reasonable, I thought.

A lot depends on the trading power of their timeshare. If they are only seeing 1 bedrooms and studios, then perhaps that is all their exchange will pull. It's a good sign though if they are seeing exchanges at all. It could also be that there just aren't any 2 bedrooms in the system.

December is THE MOST POPULAR time for DVC members to travel to WDW, and many of the resorts have been fully booked for some time now. I'd probably not hold my breath for that time of year. Booking through CRO for that time frame is much easier than through DVC. Most of us have booked our December weeks last January.

I'm afraid I have bad news. As of right now, there are If they are not seeing any 2BRs *at all*, then chances are they do not have sufficient trade power to make the desired exchange. In fact, there are three 2BRs for the week after right now, and the trade power required for those should be similar.

Worse, as has been mentioned, that week seems to be rarely deposited. There were many more units deposited that made it past ongoing searches this year for the remainder of December---including the week between Christmas and New Years. I keep track of what ends up in the "leftovers" in Weeks after ongoing searches are satisfied, and I've seen only a handful of units for that week, all 1BRs.

I would take the Bonnet Creek exchange now. It's a lovely resort, and some units have a direct overview of all of Epcot, with the castle in the distance. As long as they are willing to drive, it will be vastly superior to two POR rooms.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone. To clarify, this moring they were seeing 1 beds and studios at a variety of DVC resorts for those two weeks (4th-18th Dec).

So, if the problem is availability there's a chance something might come up, but only a very slim chance because December is so popular (frustrating thing is we knew that, which is why we rented our DVC points in plenty of time, we just didn't realise they could use their RCI weeks).

If it's trading power we just won't see any 2 bedrooms...and this is the most likely since we're seeing 1 beds and studios.

Hope I have all that right! Seems like they should probably go for Bonnet Creek then?
