Can we do this when booking with Avis?

Usually when my Dad calls Avis to book our rental car for December and gives them his Wizard number, they have it on file that he always makes a reservation for an Intermediate car. However when renting it at Orlando International Airport he always upgrades to the next best size after an Intermediate. So I am wondering instead of booking an Intermediate over the phone, can he book the next size up from that so he does not have to upgrade at the Airport?

He should update his Avis profile to the size car he would like for the trip. Then he wouldn't need to do anything when he got to the airport.

Just go to the Avis homepage, and click on "My Avis". From there any changes can be made to his profile.

Has he been paying for the upgrade at MCO?

If not, then no he may not be able do it if they are giving him a free upgrade because he rents with them a lot or something.

If he has been paying then he can just request the car type he wants when he makes the reservation, the default is intermediate so he just needs to change that. I don't know that he wants to change his Wizard profile if he rents intermediates for any other reason.

Thank you all for that informatio and CarolA, to answer you're question my Dad pays extra for the upgrade. So he has never got it from them for free.
