A pool party at WDW? I think that would be cool, especially for a kiddo!

If the parents have it all "arranged" with the hotel, I say go and have fun!

My daughter would LOVE a pool party at WDW, sadly we live where it snows....<sigh>

It's been a number of years since I've stayed at the Beach Club..(we like the WL now)..but I can't imagine being a paying guest at this resort or any resort for that matter, and having someone show up with 20 little ones..their parents, brothers, and sisters! I am surprised, and frankly dissapointed if it does go on. How does Disney justify the "no pool hopping" policy for it's paying guests..and then allow that. It's like saying..well, you can buy your way in. They should have rooms at the Beach Club(enough to accomodate the number guests using the pool facilites) if this is the case. I wouldn't want to be staying there on my one and only vacation that year and have 20 pool party kids there...not for those rates. If they do offer that type of service it shouldn't be at Storm-Along-Bay where resorts guests are paying extra(by the rates for that resort) for the privilige. I hope that the information provided is incorrect...and perhaps there is more to the story. I also agree that they should go to one of the water parks for this type of activity. Not a resort pool.

This has nothing to do with the Contemporary. I am only stating the facts from what I know about this thread and if the person who the OP knows who arranged this party and it was approved by the Beach Club, then that is a fact. Basically you can't compare it to who the Contemporary lets to park at their Resort because this party was approved by someone at the Beach Club, so don't go down that road and make those comparisons.

Personally, I follow the signs. I don't ask a CM to let me park in valet at CR and then run over to MK (even though I might be able to get away with it) and I don't ask a CM to let me swim in SAB when I know I'm not allowed (even though I might get away with it)

Regardless, I still wish I was there to see this party try to get in!

So is this a sudden shift in attitude that now extends to the people who Disney allows to park at the Contemporary? It is after all their property ultimately, and they should have final word as to who they let in to park where, right?

This came right out of left field (or is its it right field?). But since it's there..yep, Disney does have the final word as to who they let park where LOL.

20 extra kids at SAB wouldn't even put a dent in that pool. But even if it did, we only rent rooms there, we don't buy into a condo where we have a voice. Your prob talking about a couple of hours, when most people would be at the parks. But even if it's a whole day, Disney can do what they want..no matter what we have to say about it. If you won't be happy that you have to share the pool with birthday party kids, I'm betting Disney would shrug. It's their pool, their rules. I just wish the OP would send this link to the person having the party, and maybe she would tell us who she talked to about this. I don't understand why so many people think she didn't really make arrangements. When you have a birthday party for your child, aren't you pretty careful to make sure you have it arranged right? Why would this be different. Do just the people on the Disboard have the "inside" info, and know that you can't just ask a CM? Why is it assumed that she didn't ask the hotel manager?

I know when they suddenly shut down MGM for Michael Jackson, I wasn't thrilled and many of us complained. It wasn't a planned in advance thing. But it didn't matter. The park owner made a decision, and apparently it was theirs to make. And we were out of there. Did I get mad and stop going to Disney? Nope. Their park, their decisions.

Once again we can compare that to last December when the Pop Warner parents paid to have MGM all to themselves. I remember people were upset about it, however since this group was willing to pay the fee WDW was happy to accept their money to allow this. Finally I think more people are upset about this thread then a group having MGM all to themselves. If I had to choose between having a Resort pool being taken over or one of the theme parks, I would choose the pool because the parks are way better then any Resort pool in WDW.

I'll agree with you there -- there are tons of signs with tons of rules, and I'm sure some will find some that conflict... some things are worth enforcing, and some things aren't...

50 people showing up in one big group at SAB without room ID's are going to get some attention, when I've sat at Beaches & Cream and watch dozens of people get turned away even when staying on site.

We don't know if Birthday Mom paid $$$ to upper management for the party, or if she just thinks she can sneak them all in because she asked a CM folding towels if she can bring in a few guests without telling the whole story.

ID checks at SAB basically one step from a turnstile at Blizzard Beach -- prove you belong in here before we let you in... In fact, I'm sure they could just put a couple turnstiles in front of SAB where you swipe your resort ID and you get in if you belong...

But don't you choose to disregard the rules if it benefits YOU? You have stated here that you refill your mug apparently, you drink on the busses. How is that different from someone who chooses to disregard a pool rule?

Actually recently I had no idea there was a rule about not eating or drinking on the buses, because I never looked for the sign, plus where were the bus drivers who were not enforcing this rule? As for the mugs I am not going to get into that.

As for this topic I am only stating what I know from reading this which is all I can do. If I am wrong about what I posted then it's not a big deal because what the OP's friend is doing does not concern me, or anyone else who will not be at the Beach Club during this time.

OP, I read about your DS 10's problems. I have a DS 10 with ADHD/Bi-Polar who also has a very hard time making friends and with other social situations. I can definitely identify with the party invitation situation. You don't know if he will actually have fun at the party or be miserable and triggered into a meltdown.

I wish you lived closer. Maybe our sons could be friends.

It sounds like your child wouldn't have a very good time anyway. I guess it would be different if it were his best friend. But since they are not friends I wouldn't make the effort either. I certainly wouldn't buy a present for a kid that I suspected was not nice to my child.

You are right for sticking with the boyscout meeting, children need to learn that prior plans and commitments come first anyway.

I agree that a 90 minute drive is a bit much for a 10 year olds birthday party. Also sounds like the parents are showing off a bit. Why do people spend so much on kids birthday parties? What ever happened to some balloons and ice cream? If the child has DW for her 10th birthday what is she going to expect for big birthdays like sweet 16 or 18?

Wow, this party has grown LOL. UP to 50 people now. Perhaps they actually know how many people, and didn't think it's a problem. As for asking the towel folding person..is that what people do when they plan a party at ChuckECheese? Ask the person cleaning the bathroom about the arrangements? I really and truly don't get why no one seems to think this person had the smarts to ask the correct person. I was always pretty fussy with details for my childrens birthday parties. Do we think that only people on the Dis know how to arrange things at Disney LOL?

Yes, they can put in a turnstyle..but still, if the front desk/manager, whatever gives you permission, they'll make sure you can get in. They have been know to give "blank" keys to show on occasion..and for sure they give out wristbands at the front desk. If you got a wristband at the front desk, and tell the person handing out the towels that...this is Disney, while they may call the front desk behind your back, they are not going to embarass you.

I never expected 12 pages of answers to my question. After spending the last weekend at Kennedy Space Center for Salute to Girl Scouts with my DD8, I was surprised to come home and find so many pages and I am finally done catching up with everyone's posts.

I doubt I will be able to get an answer for you all about how the party went because I am still going minigolfing with the Cub Scouts on Saturday (probably dragging DD8 along too). I just hope no one causes a big stink for the parents that day for the birthday girls' sake.

DD10 would've loved the party - he loves to swim. But, he understands its way too far away to go to a party and he's looking forward to the mini golf even though DS 6 will be there, now that he's joining scouts. I'll try to ask the teacher next week if he heard about how the party was.

If anyone hasn't been to Kennedy Space Center on their Disney trips, I highly recommend it. This weekend was my 3rd trip since moving here in 2003. I went twice with DS 10 for Salute to Boy Scouts and I took DD 8 this weekend for Salute to Girl Scouts. I was very disappointed that about half the number of Girl Scouts showed up in comparison to the Boy Scouts.

Just because some of us plan well doesn't mean everyone else does. Look how many people show up at MK in the morning and just expect to eat in the castle for breakfast.

Again, we really don't know *WHO* she asked or exactly *WHAT* she asked.. everything at this point is just conjecture by all of us. What we do know is that "Birthday Mom" plans to bring her party to Beach Club and at one point she at least asked a CM if she's allowed to bring in guests, and CM apparently says Yes. Maybe there is more to the story that "Birthday Mom" didn't share, like paying $$$ to get blank ID's... or maybe Jim Lewis himself came down and told her "No Problem" because members are magical...

First, if I had kids, I'd be delighted to take them to such a cool party! I'd try to get a carpool set up, but I'd want to drive so I could hang out at Disney.

Now - I do agree as far as families paying for the BC and using the pool. BUT, I also am a little bothered sometimes by weddings taking over the beach, sidewalk, etc. To me, that is also an area also paid for by guests. That doesn't mean the weddings aren't lovely, and that they aren't magical - but if I was paying $400.00 a night and had sections roped off to me, I'd not be as happy either (or 20 kids and parents hitting the pool).

But Disney does work with guests to do things - birthday parties, weddings, etc., and very well might have done that in this case.
