We are going to the world Oct 17-24. We are being joined by friends, who, by serendipity, get to Orlando that morning. We don't expect to reach property until 10:00 or 10:30 that night.

In the event that I am able to get AP rates on the rooms, will they be able to check in without me? I know reservations now carry the name of all guests. It would be an awfully long day for them, but the discount could be nothing to sneeze at.

Has anyone had a non-reserving guest check-in prior to the reserving guest?

thanks,
Ronda

I believe if you reserved the room with an AP rate you need to check-in and show your AP. They can't check-in without you.

You can't check-in in absentia. Someone physically has to be there to do the paperwork (credit card imprint for incidentals, etc. etc.) However, I THINK there is a grace period between when you check-in with an AP rate and when you are required to produce an AP before your room rate turns into a pumpkin. But this assumes they will let your friends check-in with your reservation... and I'm not certain they'll let them do that. If you get the AP rate, the best thing to do is call them and ask.

I asked, since I wasn't sure what time my friend was coming..and they said I either had to be there, or I could "pre check" her in and be sure her name was on the ressie when she came in

I ended up waiting for her (although I had prechecked her) and I wasn't needed at the desk.
