Can the parks measure official heights with armbands?

Just wondering if there are places in each kingdom where a child can be officially measured and given an armband basically stating what restrictions they have. My niece is going with us in a few weeks and she is right around the 40 inch line. It would be nice to have an official measurement since I hear CMs may have differing opinions on whether a child is tall enough or not.

Have never heard of such a thing. At all the rides that require a certain height, there are places to measure the child, so it shouldn't be a matter of opinion.

I was hoping since armbands can be given at other theme parks, like Six Flags. I heard from a different thread that a CM at one attraction will let a child on, and later in the day, a new one won't.

It's not quite as arbitrary as that, although human error does come into play. A CM early in the day may see a child when they're rested and happy and perky and standing up straight, while someone later in the day may see the same child tired, cranky and a bit slouching. So ... child hits the mark in the AM, doesn't in the PM. This is particularly true of kids who are literally right on the line. But there are several measuring sticks at each attraction, so you're not relying simply on one CM and one measurement. There are multiple measurements so that they can cross check and try to eliminate the "maybes."

The best thing you can do to make sure your child, if tall enough, can indeed ride is to have them stand up straight ... good posture ... no tip-toes, no slouching. Measure them that way, in basic (not platform) shoes, and tell them that's how they need to stand when they're measured at every single ride.

I think I read on this board last year that Disneyland Calif. were experimenting with a procedure which is that the child would be measured properly at the entrance and provided with an armband (kind of like the ones you get at hospital which you cannot remove without breaking - so as to prevent removing and passing to a 'shorter' person). These would be shown at the rides, thus preventing the problems of CM's measuring 'wrongly', etc.

I never heard whether this was adopted officially at Disneyland, or if the experiment would be adopted at WDW Florida.

Perhaps someone out there has more up to date info?

I know at AK for Kali River Rapids my DS4 had jsut made the height requirement and they gave him a yellow wrist band to let them know further down the line that he was measured and tall enough. He could have went back on later without being measured again, but he didn't want to go on again.

Thanks for all the great information. I wanted to bump this thread up again to see if anyone out there knows anything more. We are taking our niece to WDW next week and she measure 41 inches in barefeet. I would love to have her bemeasured once, at City Hall or something and be good to go for the rest of the day instead of stopping 3 or 4 times at each ride to be "re-checked"

Anyone if there is some sort of arm-band or something for Height Measurements?

They were toying with the idea of it but it never flew as it wasnt ever fully implemented and people had found some ways to cheat it and it caused lots of problems- That is a whole nother discussion--

The short way of things is there is no easy and fool proof method of handeling the height checks with a borderline kid- It is the CMs reponsability if something happens to your child on the ride and sadly some care more than others- If your kid is borderline you *want* to have your kid measured every time because that shows the CMs are on the ball and doing their job- Yes its annoying but is it necessary.

The easiest way is to just train the kid that every time they see a height sign with a CM just to go stand under it- If they are tall enough the CM will let ya through no problems- It takes alot less time than having you try to walk past them and having to backtrack to measure-

Its important to stand up straight with the feet planted on the floor (no tip toes) and look straight ahead- It also helps to have the hair pretty basic as it may look like your trying to cheat a few inches by hair even if the kids tall enough-

Most CMs are very good about telling which kids are tall enough and not- and going along with the height checks for borderline kids makes it that much easier- You may have ridden before but the CM asking to check height prob wasnt the one who was there last time and they have to know for themselves as it would be their tushie killed not the one who let ya on before that would be in trouble...

Our DD4 was right at 40 inches in December. We were never stopped one time. CMs seem to know what 40" looks like. Also, DH and I have "policy" to always look like we know what we are doing. So, we just confidently walk right by the CM. As I said earlier, we were never stopped once. Our DD has grown another 1 1/2", so next week we definitely don't expect any problems.

I wish Disney would implement a wristband height system. Last summer our youngest was measured at the entrance of Space Mountain and they said she was good to go.

We waited through the line, and AGAIN a CM measures just before you board the ride. The second CM said that she was too short! Talk about a very disappointed little girl... :( (and an annoyed parent - it would have been OK if they said no in the first place, but to tell her yes, build the excitement while waiting, and THEN telling her no was NOT good.)

Just a heads up that this IS possible even when you pass that first checkpoint. The boarding CM has final say over the CM at the ride entrance.
