Can someone tell me about Athens Georgia?

My husbad has a good job opportunity in Athens, GA. I would love to hear more about this small city, housing, schools, spirit, etc. It sounds great but I would so appreciate first hand accounts of what it is like to live there! (it would mean no more three hour drives to WDW! )

I lived in Winterville for awhile which is a bedroom community of Athens. I loved it there. Quaint small town. As for Athens they have great schools, decent shopping, and wonderful people. I found it odd to go to the grocery store and see the college kids with Ramen noodles and beer filling their carts. Driving is a challenge half of the residents are elderly and of course drive slow the other half are college kids and drive like you know what. I was a member of the Mothers Club, Garden Club, and several play date clubs. It seems that you meet very interesting people there. Several of my friends there were professors wives and the conversations were stimulating. If given the chance I would move back there in a second. I hope that helps.
