A co-worker and I were discussing DVC today at lunch (we are both owners). He insists that there was a "value" booking category at BWV that was less points than a standard maybe 8 years ago. I told him absolutely not. That there has only been the standard and preferred and that the preferred got split into boardwalk and garden/pool. Who is right?? TIA

Agree. You are. :)

This is what I remember -

When BWV first opened, there was only one booking category. Due to member complaints, the standard category was instituted.

Later, the Preferred View was split into Boardwalk view and Pool/Garden view. I believe that split was mostly due to complaints by BWV Front Desk CMs. Apparently, some members were throwing fits at check-in if they didn't get their Boardwalk view requests. :sad2:

Thank you!! I thought I was right but he's the type that is never wrong and was so insistent that I was wrong that I started doubting myself! Thanks again!

Maybe your friend was remembering the times before the recent points reallocations (2010 and 2011 maybe?). The standard rooms were as low as 8pts/night. Now the smallest is 10pts/night I think.

I actually talked to member satisfaction right before they broke out the boardwalk view. They had announced the "room ready" method of assigning rooms, which meant no rooms were assigned in advance, it was assigned when you walked up to the front desk with the goal being to put you into a room that was ready. It was explained that if you didn't like the room that was ready, you could come back to check in later to see what was available. I called because I was sold on BWV based on room assignments being by date of reservation. I was told members who made reservations at 11 months would have priority for boardwalk view. Now that changed, someone who made a reservation a month before could get the boardwalk view. I think there was a lot of protest, so they instituted the separate boardwalk view. Otherwise, people would been camping out at the front desk waiting for a boardwalk view to open. Plus it's only fair that BWV members who pay the highest dues at WDW get the home resort priority for the best view rooms.

well now, with that kind of talk, how do you intend to show him you're right!!:rotfl:

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

I am glad they made the separate booking category for all the reasons you state. (I'm pretty much a SV person, myself, though). It's better than trying to assign reservations based on when the reservation was made. That doesn't always work for obvious reasons.

I still don't understand why there isn't a point difference between garden/pool and boardwalk. I know that it must be a pain to reallocate the points, but it doesn't seem right to pay the same points for the two. Would there be one single person our of 100 that would choose garden/pool view if both were available.

Actually quite a few members don't like the boardwalk rooms because of noise. I've seen it posted here quite a bit (but most book standard to save points). Pool/garden are the last to go.
